FUQUAY-VARINA BY BETTY MERRITT HOLLY SPRINGS-The morn ing worship service was heid at Douglas Chapel AME Zion Church the second Sunday, with the pastor, Rev. FrankL. Rush, presiding. Rev. Rush delivered a very elevating message which was enjoyed by all. Music was furnished by the junior choir. The all-gil l chorus of the United Church of Christ held its monthly meeting at the church Sunday afternoon. Evening services were held at First Baptist Church. Rev. Miles of Raleigh brought the message. His theme was “Choked US? Wells.*’ The teat was found in the Book of Gen esis. The Boy Scout Club spon sored a trip to Wilmington Fri day, Jane 13. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Turner were hosts to Rev. Wade, pastor of St. Mary's Freewill Baptist Church Sun day. Morning services were held at the United Church of Christ where Rev. John H. Jones is pastor. Following a short intermis sion, afternoon service began with Rev. Williams presiding. Rev. James Cannady brought the message. He chose his text from Revelation 2:10 and used for a theme “If You Can't Take It You Cant Make It." Mrs. Cora Lassiter, accompanied the all-girls chorus who rendered music. A total of $208.00 was presented to Rev. and Mrs. Jones along with a beautiful anniversary cake baked by Mrs. William Lassiter, Jr„ The Daughters of Zion ap peared along with many other groups on the second anniver sary of the Poplar Springs Gos pel Chorus Sunday evening at the above named church. The annual revival is in pro gress at First Baptist Church. The speaker for the week Is the Rev. Luther Carthage of Ra leigh. The music was rendered by the men’s chorus, accompanied by Mr. William E. Boney. The men sang beautifully. Mr. B. Holt offered prayer. The old est father worshipping with us was Mr. Ira Burton. ANNOUNCEMENTS The president of the senior ushers is asking all senior and junior ushers to meet at the church, along with the pastor, Rev. Trice, Tuesday, July 14 at 8 p.m, Sunday morning, June 22, the St. Augusta Freewill Baptist Church will observe its annual Youth Day. All youth will be in charge of the morning serv ice. The pastor is Rev. J. M, Jackson. The Vacation Bible School at First Baptist, June 9-13, was a great success, Mrs, Odell Thorpe was principal; Mrs. W. E. Boney, assistant. Teach ers were Mrs. Bernice Rober son, Mrs. Pearl Spence, Miss Annie Marie Wilkson and Mr. Ira Burton. The average daily attendance was 75. On Friday, the Com mencement picnic was held on the church campus. The menu consisted of cookies, peanuts, potato chips and punch. The afternoon was rainy but was an enjoyable one. Let’s not forget our sick and shut-in: Mrs. Decie Lawrence is home from the hospital and Miss Annie Stuart and Miss Belinda Allen are recuperating nicely at home. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL The St. Augusta Freewill Bap tist Church of Fuquay-Varina held its Vacational Bible School June 9-13. Mrs Christine Black was principal and Mrs. Minnie L. McKoy, assistant principal. Mr. Alex Bullock is supt. of Sunday School. Group leaders were Mrs. Pauline Prince, Mrs. Peggie Stephens, Mrs. Mae McLeod, Misses Portia Wilson, Clarice Mangum, Barbara McLeod, and Mary Stephens. Miss Annie Stephens was secretary of the Bible School. The average daily attendance was one-hundred and twenty-five. Our pastor, Rev. J. M, Jackson, Pinehurst, was with us each day and was very instrumental in the activities. He also delivered the Com mencement address from the theme of “Youth, A Flame.” On Friday, Rev. and Mrs. W. M, Freeman visited with us and viewed the exhibits. Mr. Freeman is principal of the Fuquay Consolidated School and Mrs. Freeman is guidance counselor of the Fu quay Consolidated School. Our Vacation Bible School picnic was held at 6:30 p.m. on the church campus. The menu was hot dogs, hamburgers, barbeque chicken and punch. The committee members for the picnic were Mrs. Virginia Lewis, Mrs. Ethleen Moore, Mrs. Sallie Lyon, Mrs. Lillie Bell Wilson, Mrs. Katie Arnold and Mrs. John R. Wilson. A THOUGHT God, is love.
