The hike around the museum was exciting and educational. Many traditional beasts, fowl and pets were seen. One of our teachers made a statement, “When have I seen a guinea?” The fun poured in at the picnic area, when all of the children, staff members and bus drivers sat down to eat the delicious food and enjoyed a variety of drinks. Every one enjoyed the trip. The Tuttle Parents’ Club made the trip possible. States And Cities Neglect Negro Talent BY J. B. HARREN ROCKY MOUNT - The an nouncement that Felton J. Cap el, Negro Southern Pines coun cilman, might be chosen for a Conservation and Development appointment over former Ra leigh councilman John Winters could be attributed to the fact that Winters, a prominent home builder, recently spoke out strongly against the inequities facing Raleigh Negroes in hous ing and other areas. Both men are qualified. Should Gov. Robert W. Scott name Capel as one of the 27 C&D board members it would be no more than is due, except that he should name two or three Negroes to C&D and on every other board or agency in our state. This writer joins thousands of other Negroes and whites who believe it is time for the white man to learn how to count more than “one" when naming Ne groes to board and agencies from dog-catc'ner to council of state. We keep trying to impress upon our white leadership that that is the cheapest way to 1 i<\eminders \ | i 844 P T MRS * RUTH M. MILDRED granting Negroes equality in our state and the South. Best way to avoid a lot of racial strife and give the Negro community a sense of belonging, satisfac tion, and the use of their thoughts in advancing our re gion and the nation. In this game of interracial relations, we find about as many whites without proper know ledge and understanding of how to love their black and brown brothers and get along peace ably with them as we do Ne groes. And, if Americans will stop being stubborn and learn to accord every man an equal chance in this life; stop so much hypocrisy and give every man a chance to do what he can for our nation - we’ll be on the way to a peaceful world here on earth. Anything less than this is going to have the younger Negroes continually pushing for their rights even to the point of violence - much to our re gret.
