FUQUAY - VARINA HOLLY SPRINGS - Youth Day was observed at the First Bap tist Church Sunday, August 24. Sunday School was opened at 3:45 a,m. with the superinten dent, Mr. Larry Betts, pre siding. The secretary was Miss Jean Burt. Teachers were Miss R. Norris, C. Hicks, C. Jones, a. Bart and Andrew Burt. We were called to worship at 11 a.ns with Miss Lillian Faye Griffin and Miss Jean Burt in charge. Music was furn ished by the junior choir. An inspirational sermon was delivered by Rev. M, Williams of Rocky Mount, whose subject was, "Be Prepared." The junior church sponsored a musical program at 2:30 p. m. Appearing groups were: The Relative Gospel Singers, Mon cure; Greenfield Gospel Cho rus, Oxford; and the Zionettes of Mt. Zion, Chathem County, with Mrs. Thelma Horton as mistress of ceremony. Morning services were also held at Douglas Chapel AME Zion Church with the pastor, Rev, Frank L. Rush, presiding. Mrs. Corefcta Merritt has re turned home and is recuperating nicely after an operation at Wake Memorial In Raleigh. In the hospital now are Mrs. Ora McClain and Mrs, Ella Bald win. First Baptist’s Sunday School opened at 10 a.m. with the supt.. Mr. Alford Thorpe, in charge. The scripture was read. Prayer was offered by the supt. The subject of the lesson was, “Into the Promised Land,” The les son text was from Joshua 1:17. Morning services were held at the St. Augusta Church with the pastor, Rev. J. M. Jacks®, presiding. He chose his text from the Book of Luke. The Gospel Chorus of St. South Carolina. Miss Marsh is a student at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte. Pfc. Matthews is stationed at Fort Bragg. VISITORS Major Albert R. Pannell and wife, Mrs. BarbaraSiokas Pannell, and daughter, Randi, are visiting her mother, Mrs. Polly Taylor, for a week. Mrs. Pannell is head teacher at the Shore Community Nursery and Kindergarten School in Asbury Park, N. J. Major Pannell is stationed at Fort Monmouth, N. J. Misses Joyce Matthews and Rhuenell Cutts returned home after working for the summer iri Rye, N. Y. Their summer was an enjoyable one. The Angler Bulldogs of the Angier High School have al most been declared the champs for the 1960-’7O ball season.
