Ohio-The De partment of Evangelism. aME Zion Church, reached for new horizons in Its General E vangelistic Convocation ai St. John AME Zion Church, Inursdav nignt, August 21, when Rev. Cecil Bishop, Greensboro, keynoted the meet with guidelines that should usher in a new ear in Evangelism for the denomina tion. Rev. Bishop defined evange lism as the one effort design ed to feed those who hunger and thirst after the bread of Christian life. He challenged his audience to go beyond the confines of their respective churches and tell men and wo men, some of whom could easily lie called dropouts from that greater life, that makes men brothers. He talked of those who needed comfort in these trying times of broken homes, violence, crime and despair who were just, waiting for the light of hope and con solation that the church is ex pected to give. He chided church leaders a - raising money for trips, so-called social programs, beautiful church edifices, while there was chaos, hunger and desperation all around. He admonished the leaders, from the bishops down, that time was running out and they should take the words of An drew, who told Simon Peter, ‘1 have found the Christ,” into the highways and hedges. His concern over the true meaning served as a basis feu a group of interviewers who conducted the interview Sat urday, in the vicinity oi St, John Church, located at 425 Forest Avenue, to determine the family life of those in the area, as it related to church affiliation, marriage, chil dren, community participa tion and even politics. The survey is said to be the high light of the four-day meet. Dr. Walter R. Yates, Direc tor, Division of Social Con cern briefed the interviewers. The survey will serve as a basis for a broader campaign of evangelft m. Dr. J. Dallas Jenkins, Sr., who heads the Department of Evangelism, planned and pro secuted the program. He was aided by his Board of Evange lism, which is headed by Bis hop C. H. Foggie. Dr. A. L. Fuller served as tie host pastor and Bishop W. A.
