Hardees
With a Heart
Monday morning,
December 3 at 10:15 a.m. a
clumsy squirrel committed
“squirrelidde.” Unfortunate
ly it did it by falling into the
power transformer outside
the JCC, thus plunging the
building into darkness and
cold on a particularly chilly
winter morning. Even more
unfortunately, all this
happened just as Chai was
gathering for its weekly
meeting.
What was needed was a
source of warmth. Sara
Schreibman called the
Hardees on Randolph Road
and ordered 27 cups of hot
coffee. The manager
answered her call, quoted her
a price of 32T a cup and then
asked her for whom the coffee
was intended and why it was
needed. Sara explain^ about
the squirrel and the conversa
tion went as follows:
“The coffee is for Chai, our
senior adult group”. “A
senior group,” said the
manager, “How old are the
members?” Sara replied,
“The average age is close to
80.” “Lady, we just donated
27 cups of hot coffee.”
THANKS HARDEES FOR
PROVING HOW NICE YOU
ARE.
B.B. LODGE
The B’nai B’rith Lodge played
its annual football game
against an all star team from
Mickey Aberman and Barak
AZA on December 9. In a game
that was hotly contested, the
men managed to prevail on a
touchdown scored on an in
terception in the last two
minutes of play.
These semi-annual contests,
pitting men against younger
men, establish a basis for com
munication between the spon
soring lodge and the AZA
chapters. The Lodge thanks
chairman Shel Goldstein and
the advisors who put the game
together.

CHAI Holds
5th Annual
Chanukah
Luncheon
The 5th Annual Chai
Chanukah luncheon honoring
the volunteer drivers and CPCC
teachers was held Monday,
December 10th. This gala event
was planned, conducted and
coordinated entirely by the
members of the Chai Senior
group. In charge this year were
Minnie Klein and Sylvia Silbert.
More than 60 persons attended.
The members of Chai depend
upon volunteer drivers for week
ly transportation to and from
their activities. Honored at the
luncheon for their faithful ser
vice as drivers were Lina
Levine, Fairlyn Levine, Helga
Rosenberger, Marianne Levin
son, Betty Jaffe, Sidney Cojac,
Sally Schrader, Alice Schreiber
and Lillian Bienstock.
Each Monday morning Chai
members attend their choice of
two formal classes conducted by
professors from CPCC. The
luncheon honored Beverly
Howard, instructor in fine art
and painting. Also honored was
Sharon Collins who for the past
4 months has led a course in self
awareness, interpersonal com
munications and consciousness
raising. The third honoree was
Nancy Lowe. Mrs. Lowe, as a
member of the CPCC teaching
staff, is responsible for the
broad range of educational and
entertaining programs which
are held each Monday afternoon
as part of regular Chai program
ming.
The highpoint of the luncheon
is the meal itself. Each Chai
member prepares and brings a
special dish or dessert. On the
table platters of steaming latkes
stqod jasxt to noodle pudding,
home baked onion rolls and dis
hes of salads, deviled eggs, cold
cuts and jello molds. The dessert
table groaned under a
mouthwatering assortment of
sweet delicacies.
The Chanukah luncheon has
come to mark the anniversary of
this remarkable group of men
and women; their energy and
willingness to continue to leam
and to grow serves as an in
spiration to all.
