HgSA(/S Jewish Divorce (Continued from Page 2) Jewish mother calls her children for dinner is by say ing, “Get in the car.” The sense of control that she once had is no longer. And, ultimately, the most impor tant victims of today’s lifestyle, the children, are most often caught in the mid dle. So much of our time has been spent being analyzed and liberated. We’ve been told that it’s time to think of ourselves and worry about our “own space”. However, far too often while some of these liberated parents are searching for their “place” they’re forgetting that they also share space with the families they’ve left behind. The children who are caught up quite often can’t handle the upheaval in their lives and serious problems arise. IN THE OLD DAYS, you could call up everyone of your friends and get the same answer. Stay together...for the children. Today, if you call someone who’s been divorced one will say, “Great. It’s an op portunity for freedom!” Another will warn you of the pitfalls that they went through. The advice can vary to “answer the door wrapped in Saran Wrap,” to learn to be the total woman or maybe even advice to *find G*d.’ I guess it boils down to that life is a lot more complicated today and when someone tells you that they are having an identity crisis...believe them! Jewish Community Of Early America Featured At Mint Museum Of History The exhibit “The Jewish Community in Early America, 1654-1830” is being shown at the Mint Museum of History, 3500 Shamrock Drive, through April 24 and is free to the public. This traveling exhibit, consisting of twenty large panels illustrated with color photographs, is on loan from the American Jewish Historical Society. Detailing the settlement of the “New World” from arrival in New Amsterdam (New York) in the late 1600’s to encourage ment by relatives to come to America in the years after the American Revolution, the exhibit illustrates Jewish involvement in early American life using pictures of ceremonial objects, let ters, documents, portraits and maps. Originally created by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) with the assistance from the Loeb Family Foundation, the exhibit has come to Charlotte through the courtesy of several in dividuals and Jewish organizations. The exhibit is augmented with “Life Cy cle” ceremonial objects drawn from local collections. Photographs and documents recently donated to the Henrietta Wallace Memorial Archives are also displayed.
