The following day, Sunday, May 22, the pools will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. They will be closed during that week, but will reopen again on Saturday, May 28, at Noon for the season. Summer pool hours will be: Sunday and Wednesday — 11 a.m. - 7p.m. (8:30p.m. begin ning June 5) Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday — 11 a.m. - 7p.m. Saturday — Noon - 7p.m. In order to enter the pools, you MUST have a 1983 JCC Membership Card. There, the group viewed an exhibit entitled “Jewish Community in Early America”. Judy Tager, Central Pied mont Community College in structor, returned to Chai with her course, “Man, Animals and Nature’’, The new class was met with en thusiasm from the group. Other April events includ ed transplanting seedlings to the JCC garden and seeing a movie called “A People Chosen - Who is a Jew?’’ Tuesdays 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. 6 weeks beginning May 10 Complete at least one pro ject in each hand-building technique (coil, slab, pinch). Focus on individual cre ativi ty and assignments to en courage creative thinking. Instruction on Potter’s Wheel. Fee: $25M/$35NM (Supply Fee included) Instructor: Cathy Siderman - Cathy has been the crafts specialist at the JCC for the past several years. Ideas and creativity are endless! Cathy shows her work at exhibits and festivals around Charlotte. Creative Sewing Wednesday, May 25 9 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Learn a variety of quick quilt piecing techniques us ing the sewing machine. Students will finish several traditional blocks. Bring sewing notions and portable machine if possible. A supp ly list will be provided by in structor prior to class. Fee: $12M/$18NM Thurs. June 9 & Thurs. June 16, 7 p.m.-10:30 p.m. or Fri. June 10 & Fri. Combines aerobics, yoga and calisthentics to improve coordination, stamina, and cardiovascular health. No need to be a swim mer to benefit from this class of water exercises. Fee: $15 Instructor: Abby Hoffman Papermaking Is Art June 9th • 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. An introduction to the history and process of paper making. Paper making is one of the oldest rejuvenated art mediums. The possibilities are limitless • graphic, two dimensional, three dimen sional. It’s fun, it’s easy, it’s messy. Come get your hands in it. You’ll make a bunch oif paper. Lunch is included in the one day workshop. $21M/$28 NM Gardeners The JCC is looking for community green thumbs to work the garden space behind the building. It’s a great cooperative opportuni ty for those who like to work in the dirt and then watch the fruits of their labor ripen to the harvest. Rafting the Nantahala Sunday, June 12 6:30 a.m. • 7:00 p.m. $16M/$22NM Leave the JCC promptly at 6:30 a.m to arrive at the Nantahala River in time to raft at 11 a.m. This is a guid ed trip for beginners and novices. We will organize at a meeting the week prior to discuss lunch plans, carpool- ing, how to dress, and what to bring. Reservations and payment must be made by May 23. The trip goes, rain or shine. No refunds after June 2. Age 18 and up invited to attend. SnackBar Snack Bar Opening May 21 Manager: Ed Mottsman The Great JCC Bicycle Rally The 5 mile Long-Course starts from The Hebrew Academy at 2:15 p.m. and joins the 2.3 mile Short-Course which starts from Providence Day School at 3 p.m. Both courses finish at the JCC for a barbeque. Barbeque will begin between 4 and 4:30 p.m. Fee: Adult Member $2.50 - Adult Non-Member $3.75 Child Member $2.00 - Child Non-Member $3.00 Those interested in coming only to the barbeque may do so at the above cost. Family participation is encourag ed. You must carpool or find a ride back to the starting point. The JCC will not provide transportation to or from the Rally. Register Now!!
