ORT
Women’s American ORT
will hold its Annual Installa
tion Dinner at Barley & Rye
Restaurant on June lb at 7:30
p.m. The price will be $10.75
to be paid at the door; reser
vations can be made by call
ing Roberta Malickson at
365-1417 or Dorothy Shapiro
at 847-0371. New officers to
be installed are: Dorothy
Shapiro, President; Ellen.
Satlof, Program V.P.; Pam
Silberman, Membership
V.P.; Roberta Malickson,
Special Projects V.P.; Mar
cia Stern, Education V.P.;
Debbie Jackson, Correspon
ding Secretary; Lydia Kohn,
Financial Secretary. This
will be our final activity for
the season and we hope all
members will make plans to
attend.
Dorothy Shapiro and Pam
Silberman attended the 5th
Biennial District Conven
tion, May 22-25, in Miami.
The theme of the meeting
was “The ORT Woman of the
80’s” and through a series of
lectures, workshops and
panel discussions they learn
ed many exciting ideas that
our chapter will be able to
use for next year. A planning
meeting for the 1983-84 year
was held June 1 at the JCC,
and new officers together
arranged an interesting and
enjoyable schedule of social
and fundraising activities.
ORT, as a movement in
Jewish life, has a long stand
ing concern with Jewish
identity and continuity. This
is best reflected in the
Jewish education programs
included in the curricula of
all its schools. In addition to
their academic and technical
courses, all ORT students
are required to take several
hours of Hebrew, Jewish
history and Jewish literature
per week. By supporting
these schools throughout the
world, our chapter can help
to continue this important
tradition.

Aroaa House
On May 4 several members
came to the Arosa House to
see how the playroom (the
chapter’s designated room to
furnish) was progressing and
to lend a helping hand at
sorting and cleaning toys.
Many thanks go to the
members of Charlotte
Chapter who donated their
time cleaning, painting,
building and soliciting for
everything from wallpaper to
sofas. The Chapter would
like to gratefully ack
nowledge the generous dona-
tions from numerous
members of the Jewish Com
munity which played a vital
part in making the playroom
a reality for so many
children.
Four members have com
pleted the 1st session of
training classes to work as
volunteers in Arosa House.
Training sessions will begin
again soon. Please contact
Lenore Greenwald (542-8826)

Ha Lailah Chapter of

ed its 1983-84 Board at a din

Country Inn in Matthews.
Under the able leadership of
Florence Widis, incoming

members are: Sara Schreib-
man, administrative v.p.;
Cary Bernstein, fund-raising
v.p.; Nicki Levine, program
v.p.; Brenda Manes, com
munications v.p.; Lisa
Foley, community volunteer
service v.p.; Adele Bedrick,

Clark, corresponding
secretary; Barbara Kirsch,
financial secretary; Marilyn
Tuckman, treasurer; Patti
Weisman, counselor.
Although it was a chilly
April evening, everyone
there seemed to warm the
room with enthusiasm and
excitement. Florence ac
cepted her position with con
fidence, giving the members
a brief look into future ac
tivities and projects. The
coming year promises to be a
busy one. But, as Patti
Weisman, outgoing presi
dent, recaptured the many
highlights of the past year, it
was apparent that the
members of Ha Lailah
Chapter have been ac
customed to “busy years.”
In appreciation for her
very hard work and sincere
leadership, Patti was
presented with a lovely gift
by her board members.
