The friends will participate in activities including arts and crafts and drama for an hour and in active games and sports in the gym for an hour. FEE: $20M/$30NM INSTRUCTORS: Jackie Austin Jean Roderiguez — Jean was an educator and coach in the school ^stem for several years. She has coached basketball and tennis and been active in cheerleading, voll^ball, canoeing and bicycling. Ho* credentials include a BS in Education and several awards and honors in cluding Basketball coach of the year. Puppet Pals K-2nd Grade - “Little House” Mondays 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm 5 Wee^ beginning Jan. 30 This is a super class in puppetry especially designed for children. The class includes training in performance, pup pet making, scenery, sound effects. Students will also learn about the various kinds of puppets and have ex perience using different kinds of puppets. FEE: $20M/$30NM INSTRUCTOR: Jim Wiberley — Jim has been a pup peteer for over 50 years. He was previously an instruc tor for Spirit Square and is widely known for his one man Punch and Judy Shows. He curroitly works with his wife for St. John Neuman Church doing puppet shows. IM/' Nancy Gamble, Drama Instructor Drama Video 3rd-6th Graders - “Little House” Tuesdays 4 pm - 5:30 pm 4 Weeks beginning Feb. 7 This drama class is the beginning of something big! This class will give the kids basic drama technique, strengthen the children’s ability to concentrate, develop pantomimic skills and teach movement as a means of com munication. FEE: $15M/$22.50NM INSTRUCTOR: Nancy Gable — Nancy is a graduate of Southwestern in Memphis, Tennessee with a degree in communication arts and a concentration in drama. She has studied drama since childhood, performed with the Tarradiddle Players, interned at the Children’s Theater and taught for the Community School of the Arts. Jan Thomas, Director of Children’s Compute Drama for Kids Something new to check for this winter is the drama class for 3rd-6th graders. The new twist to this class is that it is only the beginning in a series of classes. The series will start with beginning drama which wiU teach children the fundamentals of concentration, pan tomime and movemoit. The sectmd class will be a casting call in which a play will be produced. The two drama classes are designed to lead into a video production class. In this class the children will leam the fundamentals of video and will video tape their play. All of these classes, hard work and fun will culminate in a family dinner and film premiere! All interested kids see class schedule to get in on the beginning of this exciting project. Kid*s Compute 7*16 Year Olds - INA Building (across from Cotswold) Fridays 3:30 pm - 5 pm 10 Weeks beginning Feb. 3 COMPUTEI’s educational courses for children teach basic computer while the students have fun! All eiq)erirace is hands-Mi using COMPUTE’s own com puters or the child’s own home computer. The course covers creative problem-solving, how computers work, programming, graphics and more. INSTRUCTOR: Jan Thomas — Jan is Director of Children’s COMPUTE!, and organizer of their popular sununer program for children. She is a graduate of UNCC and the author of instructional software in use at a local private school. Jan is also a consultant on computer ap proaches to reading problems. She also provides in-house instruction on using business software packages. 6th Graders Afternoon of Sports 2nd and 3rd graders - Cotswold Elementary School Wednesdays 3:30 pm - 5 pm 5 Weeks loginning Feb. 1 An hour and a hdf filled with fun. This class is design ed to offer a variety of sports experiences including, stret ching, organized games, proper jogging technique, rope jumping, ball handling and much more! Beginner*s Ballet 7 Year olds and up - Lansdowne Elementary School Mondays and/or Tuesays Classes begin on Jan. 30 — Time to be aimounced This beginning ballet class is the first of what we are hoping to be the start of a fine classical ballet school. Tlie classes will involve beginners of all ages from 7 3n*s. old and up. Grouping by ages and class times will be scheduled by the instructor at orientation. MONTHLY FEE: One class per week $25M/$35NM Two classes per week $36M/$46NM INSTRUCTOR: Emilka Hulova — Miss Hulova comes to this area from California where she was director of the Mendocino School of Ballet, and artistic director and ballet mistress of Evergreen Ballet Theatre. She was formerly soloist of the Metropolitan Opera Ballet in New York, soloist with the Marquis de Cuevas Co. in France, and has appeared in Broadway musicals and on television. Her most recent associations on the West Coast have been with the San Francisco Ballet and the Marin Ballet in San Rafael. Miss Hulova’s choreographic ability has produc ed many ballets and musical productions from coast to coast, and her expertise is much in demand. Intermediate Ballet Intermediate I - Mondays and Wednesdays Month begins Jan. 30 7 pm - 8 pm Beginner - Tuesdays and Thursdays Month begins Jan. 31 7 pm - 8 pm Held at Lansdowne Elementary School “A unique opportunity to combine stimulating move ment with fine music, to blend physical conditioning with progressive mental challenge.” Classical ballet training includes bar exercises and center floor work. Trim Kids 4th-€th Graders - Lansdowne Elementary School Wednesdays 4 pm - 5 pm Beginning Feb. 1 An exercise program designed especially for children. Students will improve flexibility, stamina and car diovascular fitness. FEE: $18M/$25NM INSTRUCTOR: Robin Clay — Robin is owner of Robin Clay’s Bodyworks and has two TV shows in this area; “Bodyworkship** and “Healthworks”. Robin is trained in modem dance, jazz dance, aerobics and has directed mousercise for Walt Disney World.
