Ha Lailah BBW Page 13-THE NEWS-August, 1984 Ha Lailah Chapter of B’nai B’rith Women will hold its first “Meet and Eat" Dinner Meeting on Tuesday, Augfust 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Arm strong House (921 Jefferson). This promises to be an ex citing evening open to the en tire membership of Ha Lailah. It will serve as an opportuni ty for each and every member to become familiar with the upcoming year’s programs and projects: CHILDFIND, LATCHKEY CHILD, PERSONAL GIV ING, THE RELATIVES, CHILDREN’S LIBRARY, MINORITY CHILD WORKSHOP. These are only a few of a variety of programs, special events and projects planned by Ha Lailah for the coming year. Board members and chairpersons of the various committees will be leading many of the discussions. Members will be sharing the excitement as these discus sions and activities will open the doors to personal involvement. A box dinner will be served at a cost of $4 per person. It being a beautiful Spring evening, the night’s activities were held outside on the deck of Wendy's home. The setting lent itself to getting ac- quednted personally as well as with the Chapter. Ice cream and an array of toppings were served which added the finishing touches to an already pleasurable event. For Mavens and Other Mothers Nicki Levine and Jeanie Katz are organizing a new special interest group for members and potential members of Ha Lailah. For “MOMS” is for women who are expecting or have had a baby within the past year. This program will offer to its participants the opportunity to leam helpful hints on handl ing special problems, sharing tips on child care and provide for adult company during a portion of the day. This will not be a mother’s morning out as the children will attend and the program will be a “casual coffee Uatch.” Come share ideas, thoughts, feelings and possibly concerns with someone who can definitely relate to a mother with a small child or a mother- to-be. Pool Party Our August meeting for Ha Lailah Chapter will be a pool party to be held on Sunday, August 12 from 2-4 p.m. at the home of Penny Eisenberg. The special feature of the afternoon will be lessons, from not just one, but two bartenders, on exotic drinks. We will not only be shown how to make these drinks, but we will sample each and every one. (In case of rain, this meeting will be held indoors at Penny’s home). Conference Awards Congratulations to the ‘83-‘84 desk officers Reggie Wittlin, Nancy Komhauser, Carol Waldman and Susan Coen, who received awards for jobs well done. The Chapter was recognized for meeting its allocation by December 31, 1983 and for oversubscribing more than 5% of its allocation by March 15, 1984. Other awards received were: • First Place for “Arosa House” as the best on-going Community Volunteer Service (CVS) Project. • First Place for our pro gram, “Cults: The Tender Trap,” as best individual program. • Tie for First Place with Chermona Chapter for best over-all CVS projects for the year. Both Chapters’ scrap books have been submitted as entries for the B’nai B’rith Sidney Kusworm award for best over-aU CVS. National recognition was received by our Chapter’s bulletin, Women Alive; it was selected the best by Washington journalists. Con gratulations for this goes to Helene Jankowitz and Meryle Elko. An organization is only as good as the people that com prise it. Meryle Elko is an ex ample of such a person. She was the winner of the National Public Relations Award. Summer Activities As 25 women sampled the mouth watering full course French dinner they prepared July 11 at the Charlotte Russe, the over-all opinion was one of good taste. Susan Bruck, immediate past Chairperson of the Mid- Atlantic Region BBW, helped the members leam more about their strengths to help them become better leaders. Members suiswered phones on June 3 for the WBTV Children’s Miracle Network Telethon. Successful coffees welcom ing new members to the Chapter were held at the homes of Linda Binnick, Cheryl Simons and Lisa Hibschman. Pool Party Get your water wings, beach music and bathing togs ready because the Chapter’s Annual POOL PARTY is coming August 18. It will be held at the home of Reggie and M5n*on Wittlin. A full course dinner, including beer and wine, will be served to heighten the fun in the pool later. Reservations can be made by contacting Joyce Levenstein, 847-8188 or Meryle Elko, 552-6633. Cost is $7.50 per person. Accessory Fashion Show Learn how to coordinate your closet, to update old fashions and highlight your new ones. Charlotte BBW in conjunction with BBG will be cohosting an Accessory Fashion Show sponsored by Monet Jewelry. The event will take place at Temple BethEl on August 29, 11:30 a.m. Models will be showing new fashion tricks during the Salad Bar Luncheon. There will be favors for everyone and draw ings for door prizes aU donated by Monet. All BBW and BBG members are welcome, as well as all teenage girls interested in BBG. Service Projects Two Community Volunteer Service (CVS) projects need your help and support. Tape-A-Tale: If you’re in terested in helping to make tapes of children’s stories or nursery rhymes to be donated to area hospitals, contact Susan Coen, 366-9539 or Beth Linderman, 542-9865. The tapes and recorders will be delivered to your home. All it takes is your imagination and interest. Amblyopia (Lazy Eye) Screening will be held in Charlotte pre-schools this fall.
