Page 7-THE NEWS-October, 1984 More Women’s Division Federation Education Meeting Stresses Leadership By Mildred Lyons Marva Perrin, national board member of Women’s Division of the Jewish Federa tion, discussed “The Jewish Woman As Leader” at our Sept. 12 meeting. Displaying an enthusiastic and informative approach to a subject dear to her heart, Ms. Perrin described the qualities of a leader as a role mc^el who takes on responsibilities, sets goals, coordinates, facilitates, moderates, informs, inspires, trains, educates and creates a sense of tradition. In addition to these essential qualities, she emphasized that the leader must leam to delegate authori ty, guard against overzealous ness on the job, have complete emotional control, and be pa tient and diplomatic. These leadership qualities were very much in evidence by the Charlotte education com mittee participants. President Gail Bienstock welcomed the guests at the home of Anita Blumenthal. She explained that the last three years have been spent bringing together the leaders of the Jewish com munity to work in concert, to coordinate the fund raising campaigns for worthy causes within the community and for long range planning for com munity needs. She reported that the Community Relations Council responds to the media, publicity concerns, and ^the total image in the community. The Shalom Y’All is a welcom ing group for newcomers. Baila Pransky spoke about the right time and place for women’s leadership in Char lotte and the necessity for an exchange of ideas and ideologies. Emily Zimmern, chair woman of the education com mittee, reported that her com mittee was creating programs of great interest. Besides the “University Experience,” smaller interest groups on L. to r.: Lina Levine, Bobbi Bernstein and Marva Perrin, guest speaker. Even the **CJN** got into the picture. In rapt attention, L to r.: G.G. Kosch, Mildred **Miekey'' Lyons, Bobbie PoUand, Ruth Goldberg. More of the group perusing Campaign flyers. political action, Soviet Jewry, civil rights, church and state, etc. are being planned. All those in attendance were given the 1985 Federa- tion/UJA Campaign printed flyers explaining the work of the Federation and the 1985 allocations committee recom mendations. Women’s Presidents Council Formed At Women’s Division's Education meeting Sept. 12, at the home of Anita Blumenthal, Gail Bienstock, president, announc ed the formation of a “Women's Presidents Council” Introduced as coordinator of this newly formed leadership group, Baila Pransky made the following remarks as she ex plained and explored the vast potential for growth and develop ment within the Charlotte Jewish community and the vital role the “Women's Presidents CouncH" can play in implementing these goals. All of us, I £im sure, are aware of the dynamic pattern of growth and expemsion tak ing place within our city. Hap pily, it is most evident that the Jewish community is keeping pace with this surge of pro gress in Charlotte’s ever changing landscape. The present and future plans for the development of an expanded Jewish environ ment are enormously exciting. From Women’s Division’s perspective, we are standing on the threshold of great ad vancement...and from this vantage point, we clearly see that this is indeed the light time, and certainly the right place, to focus on women’s leadership, and its vast poten tial for achievement. We perceive that the need for open communication, on the leader ship level, is vital in maintain ing a healthy exchange of idiologies in our ever expand ing and progressive community. Having given careful con sideration and thought to the needs of the present and the future. Women’s Division pro poses the following; To bring together the presi^ng women presidents and key women leaders of all the Jewish organizations in Charlotte, to form a Women’s Presidents Council. This Council will func tion as a forum for brainstorm ing new ideas, solving pro blems and voicing complaints, exploring joint ventures on major projects and collective ly benefit from the Jewish community’s resources. Because Women’s Division is linked with every Jewish organization in Charlotte and works toward supporting their programs, we find the role of convener for this Women’s Presidents CouncU to be a natural outgrowth of our mutual interests and concerns. I feel privileged to have been appointed by Women’s Divi sion as coordinator of this Council. I eagerly look forward to exploring with this group the many interesting avenues of challenge and progress that lie before us. At our inaugural meeting on Wednesday even ing, Nov. 28, at the Armstrong House, we will hopefully begin the process. Our belief is that through this leadership group we will create an environment where thoughts, needs and ideas will flow in an atmosphere of friendship and cooperation. — Baila Pransky MarthaVVallavt' ltd Wheti You Think 'Best Dressed', Think...
