On Oct. 24-25, the first amblyopia screening in a Charlotte preschool was held at Covenant Presbyterian Church. The pediatric patients at Memorial Hospital were be dazzled by the costumed mem bers of the chapter who delivered tapes of stories and poems to them on Oct. 26. The children also received funny and ghoulish styrofoam Hallo ween pumpkins which were decorated by chapter mem bers. On October 29, BBW members did the same thing at the pediatric ward at Presbyterian Hospital. November will also be a busy month. Amblyopia screening will continue; volunteers are still needed to do actual screening as well as secretarial work. All volun teers are trained. The chapter is again involv ed this year with the Special Olympics; this time to help with bowling at Centenni^ Lanes. On Nov. 19, a meeting will be held at which time a vote will be taken for a recipient of the annual Human Relations Award. Thanksgiving will be a special event for the chapter this year, when the turkey with all the trimmings will be delivered to Arosa House. A bow-making party will be held on Nov. 28 in preparation for our annual gift wrap pro ject which will take place dur ing December at Cotswold MaU. TRYON ST 730 p.m. Childfind at Eaatlmd Mall On October 25 and 26, Ha Lailah Chapter B’nai B’rith Women distributed CHILD FIND kits and information on missing children at the com munity booth at Eastland MaU. The CHILDFIND kits which sell for $8 are packets of information telling parents what to do if a child is missing and also provides record-keep- ing information. A card in the packet is sent to CHILD FIND where the information is kept on computer for use in case of an emergency. Representatives of the Charlotte Police Department were also present to talk to parents. Ha Lailah will be working with CHILDFIND as an ongoing project to get the necessary information to parents. If you weren’t able to get your CHILDFIND kit and woidd like to purchase one, call Wendy Rosen (847-3841). Safety Day at the JCC As a follow-up to this pro gram, Ha Lailah will be cosponsoring with the JCC a Safety Program on November 7 as part of the School’s Out — Center’s In program. We hope to also reach “Latch Key Children” for this day. The police department will work with the children, self-defense techniques will be taught, and safety tips wiU be given. All children are encouraged to participate — even if they are not attending the other days of the School’s Out — Center’s In program. For details and registration information call the JCC, 366-0357. There is no fee for this safety program. Barbara Ziegler to Speak On Tuesday, November 20, the monthly progreun meeting wiU be held at 8 p.m. at the home of Lee Blumenthal (2360 Rock Creek Drive). Barbara Ziegler will lead a discussion on pre-adolescents and adolescents — responsibilities, abuses, and dealing with developmental changes. Bar bara is Executive Director of the Mecklenburg Council on Adolescent Pregnancy. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED
