Page 9-THE NEWS-February, 1985 More In And Around The JCC New Year’s Eve Was ‘‘Super’’ volunteer of the Month Sandra Gunn Approximately 70 couples attended the JCC New Year’s Eve Party at the Adam’s Mark Hotel. Of these couples, 19 opted for the overnight stay at the hotel, which includ ed a buffet breakfast New Year’s Day. While there were over 500 people celebrating the event, JCC couples were seated together and truly formed a close-knit party within the larger affair. The dinner was excellent; the entree, being prime rib, the hotel accom modated our members who preferred a fresh fish dinner. Most would agree that one of the highlights of the even ing was the band “Steel Creek”, which performed top 40 hits until after 1 a.m. We anxiously await the opening of the new JCC so that we can hold these types of functions in our own building. In the interim, we have found that our new and beautiful hotels are providing an excellent alternative. Register Now For Mother^s Morning Out; We are aware that parents register their children for Mother’s Morning Out pro grams well in advance. Therefore, we are seeking ear ly registrations for next fall’s program. At that time (Sept. 1) we will again offer “Mother’s Morning Out” each Monday, Wednesday and Fri day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All children from 4 months to 2V? years are welcome to par ticipate. We are confident that we can more than match other similar programs in the city. Give us a try, contact Irene Komor at 366-0357. From all of us to all of you - Happy New Year. I A couple switch? Sandra became involved with the Center about 18 months ago. Since then, it has been non-stop. She is the chairperson of the Adult and Phase-In Adult Committees. Her most recent “J” involve ment is the new JCC Board Leadership Program. Sandra has a B.A. in English and an M.Ed. in counseling. Her background includes teaching and counsel ing at the Jr. High level and working in the 5 Points Com munity with the Gethsemane Enrichment Program. Sandra was a UNCC professor in the Human Services Department. During her 5 years at the University, she was involved in “University Year for Ac tion” and supervised student teachers. Sandra’s desire to volunteer didn’t start at the ‘J’. She has been £in advocate for the Coun cil on Children, on a study commission for the United Way, and a facilitator at the Latch Key Conference. During the campaign season, you may have seen Sandra with her “D.G.” watch, stickers and pins. She was an active member of his campaign and would love to see him run again. Currently, Sandra is on the Council on Adolescent Pregnancy, involved in a grant writing project for Open Door School, and an active member of Temple Beth El. Husband Bob, an architect, and 3V2 year-old daughter, Julia, couldn’t be more suppor tive of Sandra. The JCC is ex tremely fortunate to have such an outstanding community member as a volunteer.
