Camp Maccabee is
coming—here’s a taste of
what’s to come!
The Jewish Community
Center and the Community
School of the Arts have
designed a stimulating artistic
and cultural experience for
your child from June 17-28,
1985. An intensive ten days of
exploration and sharing will
include drama, music, visual
arts and movement. Special
emphasis will be placed on
Jewish culture and history.
This creative arts progremi wiU
prove challenging to children
at all levels of artistic talent.
At the same time, a new
venture for the JCC brings a
new adventure daily for (ris
ing) seventh, eighth and ninth
graders. For two weeks, camp
ers will experience the variety
of travel with day trips and
overnights.
July 1 through August 9
brings six weeks of special fun
for all ages. Activities will in
clude swimming, arts and
crafts, sports, song and dance.
Jewish content programming
and one overnight per session.
In addition, each age group
will focus on specied activities
for each two week session.
August 12 through August
23, campers will have the op
portunity to explore their
natural environment at the
Gus Purcell Day Camp in Mat
thews. Just seven miles from
the JCC’s Armstrong House,
Gus Purcell’s provides a
rustic, countryside campsite.
Children will eat in the wood-
en-floored lodge or under the
shade of trees. They’ll hike
through the woods to a fishing
pond on the 20 acres of rolling
terrain.
In addition to the Travel
Camp, another Tween-Teen
program is the Counselors-in-
Training. CITs will receive in
struction in first-aid, water-
safety, child-care, program
development and leadership
skills. They will work as staff,
with supervision from the
Director, and help to plan pro
grams for campers.
Once again, an Israeli
Shaliach (ambassador) will
lead us in song and dance
bringing Israel’s culture to
Charlotte for the entire camp
season.
We look forward to another
fun and fulfilling summer
together at Camp Maccabee.
