Page 8-THE NEWS-November, 1985 Women'*s Division o£ Federation Newcomers Attend Shalom Y*alt Evening At Armstrong House On August 28 Charlotte’s Jewish newcomers attended a Shalom Y’all gathering at the Armstrong House. Shalom Y’all described as the “Jewish Welcome Wagon” consists of a committee formed under the auspices of Women’s Division of Federation. Its main pur pose is to introduce recent Charlotte newcomers to each other, as well as to the Jewish community, and to provide a warm evening of information and conversation. The evening began with “schmoozing” among the newcomers. Later, Bobbi “From Chicago” Bernstein of Women’s Division formally welcomed everyone. Her message was quite clear: “We welcome you, we want you, we need you.” Bobbi introduced JCC President Miles Levine, who briefly described the Shalom Park facilities. Also present were Ethel and Allan Gordon representing Temple Beth El; Marcia Lampert and Barbara Freeman of Temple Beth Shalom: Wendy Rosen of Ha Lailah, B’nai B’rith Women; Adrienne Rosenberg, Director of Jewish Social Ser vices; Lisa Hibshman of Charlotte Chapter, B’nai B’rith Women; Shalom Y’all hostesses Cathy Katz, Helene Nathanson, Diane Rosenberg and Felicity Berzack. The newcomers enjoyed the event. Irene Jayson was the first newcomer to arrive. She has been in town only a short time and is one of the first wave of “Royalty” coming from New York City. Irene misses the “Big Apple” but likes Charlotte so far. Les Ravitz, who attended a previous Shalom Y’all, came back with his wife Susan. After being separated for a year, Susan is happy to finally be here in Charlotte with Les who works for Price Waterhouse. Richard Parker is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is in real estate leasing and management and is single. Burt and Patti Aronoff have come to Charlotte via the I srael-France-Atlanta route. Patti is studying physics at UNCC, and Burt is with Ron- co Irrigation, Inc. Among the products he installs are Israeli irrigation systems. Mark Willens is another young “Jewish Singles” member from Hollywood, Florida. Mark is an avid ten nis player. He works for the private investment firm, Levenshon Company. Aliza Bricklin has been in Charlotte one year. She is from Philadelphia and presently works with NCNB as a clerical personnel supervisor. Fred Ellis was tired of the big city hassles of New York. He is pursuing a career in real estate. Peter and Debbie Telem are both very happy to be in Charlotte. Peter is in ^aduate school working for his MBA and also works for a manage ment recruiting firm. Debbie is a nurse practitioner. Bob and Lenora Stein have been in town about three months emd Lenora is already a member of every possible Jewish organization. Bob is an environmental engineer in volved with the “Pipeline” construction in south Char lotte. The Steins are from Nashville, Tennessee. Walt and Barbara Schoen have recently moved to Charlotte from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Walt is an obstetri cian/gynecologist at the Nalle Clinic. They have two children ages four and eight. Gina and Allen Strumpf were present with son Eric. Allen is with Robinson Humphrey/ American Express. Eric at tends Country Day.
