Page 8-THE NEWS-March, 1986 CB^ Handle By Cary Bernstein Director of Youth Services We are slowly beginning to “rev up” for the opening of the new blading. During January the “J” sponsored three very successful events for the com munity. Our single parent and child afternoon was well at tended. The children worked on a small project and then prepared snacks for their parents. We enjoyed being together and have planned several other afternoons of fun. Please call the Center if you would like to have your name added to our mailing list. Thanks go to the 7th-9th graders who attended the “smooze & nosh” on January 26. Your input on programs for the new building was very helpful. The group composed of 26 vibrant young people, decided that they would like to meet on a bi-monthly basis and I am in the process of planning our next event. The group also decided that we should form a “tween council” that wiU coordinate and plan coming events. At the next meeting we will elect council members. The bus departed South- Park Mall February 1, even before the sun came up. Once on the road, the sleepy-eyed skiiers waited for the dawn and then munched on a break fast of doughnuts, muffins, coffeecake and juice to help them get through the three- hour bus ride to Beech Moun tain. The bus wound around narrow mountain roads to the Banner Elk resort where skiiers, from beginners to ad vanced, took to the slopes for a day of downhill. Some took lessons and made their very first runs down the “bunny” hills. By five o’clock, everyone was exhausted but happy. Fortunately no one was in jured, only an occasional bruised ego where someone had fallen and couldn’t get back up.
