NC 847-4346 Carol Shafranek Cheryl Alklns Opera Carolina and JCC Present An ^^Inf ormance*' In And Aro Harold McIntosh Opera Carolina and the JCC are pleased to present a special opera “Informance” with Harold McIntosh, accom panied by Roxanne Denk at the piano on Sunday, Mar. 15, 8 p.m. in Gorelick Hall at Shalom Park. Admission will be $4 for JCC members, $6 non-members, $3 senior citizens. Light refreshment will be served following the performance. Harold McIntosh continues to establish himself as a ver satile singing actor. Mr. McIn tosh made his operatic debut in 1978 in an impressive per formance of Papageno in Col umbia Lyric Opera’s produc tion of Die Zauberflote. He created the roles of Job and Alberic in Opera Carolina’s world premiere production of Abelard and Heloise. He has been a district winner of the Metropolitan Opera Competi tions both in North and South Carolina. Recently he was the first place winner of the Atlan- ta Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions and was a na tional semi-finalist in New York City at Metropolitan Opera Auditions £md was a na tional semi-finalist in New York City at the Met. His varied operatic career encom passes roles in La Boheme, Fledermaus, Tosca, L’Elisir D’Amore, Cosi Fan Tutte, Le Nozze Di Figaro, Rigoletto and FidelJo to name a few. As well as being a fine operatic performer, he excels in the per formance of oratorio. The “Informance” is an in formal, entertaining and flex ible performance that brings the artist to a wide range of settings in the community. The goal is to reach and in volve audience members in the artist’s enthusiasm for his art. Alternating selections from his repetoire with comments and anecdotes about his life, career and craft, the artist reveals who he is, what he does and why. Audience members are encouraged to participate with questions and remarks. The rapport which develops between an artist and his au dience — a rapport born of the immediacy inherent in an “In formance” — has made the progrzun a distinctive one-of-a- kind venture in promoting both performing Eirtists and arts. Tickets are available at the JCC desk. Savannah’s JEA Competed Here In Basketball Weekend The Charlotte JCC played host to the Savannah Jewish Educational Alliance (JEA) in a pair of basketball double headers on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. The Charlotte JCC high school team won both games by a score of 73 to 57 on Saturday night and 46 to 43 on Sunday morning. In Saturday night’s game the Cheirlotte JCC was led by senior forwards A1 Mauceri and Gerry Ceuvorst with 22 points each. On Sun day, the Charlotte JCC squeezed out a close game. They were led by junior center David Asrael’s 12 points, 12 rebounds and 8 block shots, and A1 Mauceri’s 12 points. Both teams enjoyed fellowship and are looking forward to playing again next year in Savannah. In the varsity (7&8 grade) game, the Savannah JEA swept the Charlotte JCC in two action filled games. The Savannah JEA team being much bigger and older (8&9 grade) took advantage of the Charlotte JCC’s smaller size. The Charlotte JCC was led by an all out team effort with a special performance from Philip Rosenfeld’s 10 points in Saturday night’s game. On Sunday afternoon the Char lotte JCC played good team basketball and again center Philip Rosenfeld added 10 points to the cause. The Charlotte JCC would like to thank all who helped in this successful weekend of fellowship with our friends from the Savannah Jewish Educational Alliance.
