Community leaders and
friends of Marvin Bienstock,
Executive Director of the

June 7 at 7:30 p.m. to honor
him and say their farewells.
Marvin will be leaving his pre

the end of June.
Sandra Weinstein, Chairper
son for the event, said: “We all
owe something to Marvin for
his twelve great years of ser

our lives and made this a bet

forward to giving Marvin re

work.”
Besides his Federation/UJA
service, he has been active in
many other aspects in the
Jewish community and the
community in general. He was
formerly director of the Jewish
Community Center and of the
Foundation of the Jewish
Community. He has served on
the executive boards of the

Marvin has also been an

the paper would probably not
have come to be. He has
helped in so many ways.”
The evening will begin with

reception followed by a special
program. Among the commu
nity leaders paying formal
tribute to Marvin will be Her

Bill Culp, Kal Kardous and
representatives of the United
Jewish Appeal.
“For 12 years we’ve all felt
that we ‘owned’ a little bit of
Marvin,” said Ron Katz,
Federation president.
“We could call on him, and
he was there...ready to help
Marvin bienstock
£md serve. We’re going to miss
him. This event will be one
more way to say thanks and
wish him, Gail and his family
every success.”
An added attraction of the
evening will be a display of
Marvin’s photographs of
Shalom Park during construc
tion. The display is sponsored
by the Visual Arts Committee
and will be in the Speizman
Gallery.
The evening is open to the
public and is $7.50 per person.

Highlighted by the joyous
sounds of “Gemini”, workers
and donors of the FEDERA
TION/UJA ‘87 CAMPAIGN
gathered at Shalom Park on
Saturday evening, March 28.
They had come together to
celebrate and to be thanked
for their part in making the ‘87
Campaign the biggest in the
history of the Charlotte
Jewish community.
At the reception for cam
paign workers which opened
the evening, those present
tried to pry from Federation
President, Ron Katz, the prize
secret of the evening, the cam
paign total. Katz was able to
hold his secret as he and
Women’s Division Campaign
‘87 co-chair, Vicki Hopkins,
thanked everyone for their
dedicated hours of effort.
“During all the meetings,
solicitations, reports, assign
ment and reassignment of pro
spects, it was a sense of being
part of a caring team that kept
me going,” said Katz. “And, it
was the cooperative effort of
that team which brought us
here tonight to celebrate our
victory.”

cake.
Vicki Hopkins underscored,
“Women’s Division has
become essential giving,
essential to the success and
the future of the campaign and
our community.”
As eight o’clock approached,
the workers joined the donors
already in Gorelick Hall. There
was a festive mood as people
chatted and commented on the
array of instruments dis
played on the stage.
Once again it was Ron Katz
and Vicki Hopkins who
welcomed everyone.
Noting that the community
had been asked to increase the
annual FEDERATION/UJA
CAMPAIGN by 50% in the
last two years, Katz emphasiz-

ed that donors had done just
that. He went on to con
gratulate everyone for having
paid over 93% of all the ‘86
Campaign pledges and almost
50% of the ‘87 pledges. He
urged people to read the 40
posters around the Hall, each
with the name and description
of a recipient agency of the
Federation.
Katz’s invitation for all the
workers present to stand drew
applause as these dedicated
volunteers were recognized.
He then asked the members of
the newly formed Leadership
Circle to stand. This group is
