Page 5-THE NEWS-January *1989 Charlotte Jewish Federation Leadership Development Program Begins Bobby Damsky, chairman of Federation’s Leadership Development Program, an nounced that Class II has had a most successful begin ning, On Oct. 9, class mem bers met in the Luski Youth Activity Center for an orien tation and social evening. Mike Minkin, executive director of the Federation, led the group in a get- acquainted exercise, stress ing significant Jewish events in their lives. Team building, group problem solving, leadership skills and enhancing self esteem were the focus of the second session held at the Charlotte Outdoor Center. These skills were demon strated through group par ticipation in solving physi cal obstacle problems and trust-building exercises. Obstacles included climbing over walls, climbing through ropes, falling backwards into the arms of group members and rappelling down a tower. The December program focusing on board training, was led by Elaine Cher- notsky, a volunteer trainer with United Way’s Volun teer Leadership Develop ment Program. Activities discussed included types of boards, functions of boards, board composition and organization. These leader ship skills will enable class members to be active and educated participant-obser- vers on local Jewish com munity boards. Building leadership skills will be a central theme throughout the entire Leadership Devel opment Program. The January program, “Meaning of the Holocaust for Western Civilization,” features Dr. Carlos G. Roz- owy, the son of Holocaust survivors. This session beg ins several programs deal ing with Jewish history, education and contempor ary issues. Members of the Leader ship Development Class II are: Lori Benjamin, Nancy and Sam Bernstein, Irving Brenner, Stuart and Jodi Cohen, Sam Eneman, Trish Fleishman-Gooder, Jona- Board Holds Retreat This past fall, the Federation Board held a retreat at the Morehead Inn.
