Lorri Barman has been involved with art most of her life and for the past ten years she has given it a full time commitment. ^ A native of NewVork, she studied there at the Brook lyn Museum, Five Towns Music and Art Foundation, and under Mr. David Friend, nationally known artist and author. She came to Charlotte fif teen years ago and since L Joe Sklut Lorri Barman&hnsband Marvin then has received a degree in Commercial Art — Advertis ing Design from CPCC and also pursued the fine arts programs there. She studied at UNCC, Spirit Square and is currently advancing her art education at Winthrop College. Lorri primarily paints on canvas and uses a variety of media. Her imagery depicts her response to the subject and is done in whatever medium that can best con vey the reaction. Geometric forms are the dominant ele ments in her work and they are often combined with organic images. She is fas cinated with architectural subjects and responds to this in a unique way. Although they are based on reality, she readily admits that the only place they exist the way they appear on the canvas is in her own head. Lately many abstract qualities have entered her work. In addition to painting, drawing is another favorite art activity, and recently she has been enthusiastically exploring sculpture. Another area in which Lorri has done much work is art history. She believes it is one of her most valuable tools. As a free lance commercial artist and designer, Lorri is currently designing for Willy Works, Inc., an inter national knitwear company. Her work has been regu larly exhibited in both North and South Carolina and has won a variety of awards, including a prestigious na tional honor for a represen tative body of work. Some of the award winning paint ings will be on display, and the exhibit will focus on the range of work she enjoys the most. -SPECIAL COUPON : Clip and bring this coupon to the Art from Israel show to be eligible to win a valuable piece of art.
