Wclcomcs New Cantor
Temple Beth El V’Shalom
welcomes Cantor Morris
Chotin to their Temple fam
ily, to serve as Cantor-Edu-
cator.
Cantor Chotin is im
pressed with both the city of
Charlotte and the Jewish
community. “The Jewish
community has been very
receptive to my being here.
People seem interested in my
input. Many have been help
ing me adjust to this new
situation. Each community
is different, and I have ap
preciated the help making
the transition to Charlotte,”
he remarked. “I’m also im
pressed with the dedication
and level of volunteerism
I’ve seen.”
Coming from St. Louis,
Cantor Chotin is also im
pressed with Charlotte’s
southern hospitality and
warmth of the people, as well
as the cleanliness of the city.
“I love the abundance of
trees and shrubbery. And
the roads, except in rush
hour, seem to make all areas
of the city reasonably acces
sible.”
He is very touched by Rab
bi Seigel’s assistance and
help. “From the very first
time we met, he’s been most
helpful and has made things
as pleasant as possible for
me. I look forward to assist
ing Rabbi Seigel in his var
ious clergy duties.”
Cantor Chotin’s long and
short term plans include
assuring the children get the
best available in Jewish
education. “I’d like to imbue
them with a positive attitude
toward Judaism and inspire
more lay members to serve
with our fine faculty.
“I’d also like to make the
congregation aware of the
vast resources of Jewish
music available for the syn
agogue. I feel, too. I’m here
Cantor Chotin

not only to make a contribu
tion to the music part of the
service and to education, but
as a member of the clergy to
minister to the needs of the
congregation for all life
cycle events and special
needs.”
Cantor Chotin hopes to
create warm memories, in
spire the congregation to
take an active part in the
musical liturgy of the ser
vice, and to lead and inter
pret the liturgy for their
positive religious experi
ence.
He expects his family to
join him in Charlotte in
January.
