CUT, AND PASTE THIS KEREN AMI BOX. t: .-3 MSTE 7 Tzedakah Maimonides lived in the 12th Century. He was a great Jewish philosopher and teacher. Maimonides taught us about the Mitzvah of tzedakah — being righteous by helping others. He said there were eight levels of tzedakah. The lowest level (step 1 below) is to give grudgingly. The highest level (step 8 below) is to help a person become independent so as not to need tzedakah. Tzedakah — helping the poor and needy — is a Mitzvah. Examples of this Mitzvah in action can be seen in Jewish communities all over the world. Jewish Agencies help Jews in each community by serving their needs. Agencies also raise money to help Jews in Israel and other countries. Most Jewish communities have a synagogue and a Jewish Community Center. What Jewish agencies in your community can you name? How do each of these organizations help people?
