A Community of Caring: Focusing On Our Youth On Wednesday, Feb. 21, noon, at the Adams Mark Hotel, Dr. George A. Zitnay, Executive Director of the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation, Washington, D.C. will share his insights, ideas and challenges on how we can become a commu nity of caring and create a collaborative effort between parents, clergy, educators and community leaders to reach youth who feel alone, unloved and out of control of their lives. Pregnancy, parenting, sexual ly transmitted diseases, the threat of AIDS, drugs and alcohol abuse, family problems, child abuse and neglect, school dropouts and suicide are some of the issues addressed by the Community of Caring in Wash ington, D.C., with programs, materials, training and technical assistance that can make a difference. Special Children’s Fund Established “From Generation to Gener ation”: How often we hear these words, but do we ever think about those in this generation, who we prefer to call “Special Children”? These are young people who, because of special circumstances and handicaps, may have difficulty in keeping up with their peers without a little extra help. It’s up to all of us to provide that help. An ongoing fund has been started with the assistance of the Foundation which will enable equipment and other types of special things to be purchased so that these young people with varying degrees of disabilities can participate in more activities at Shalom Park. Currently, we have ordered a piece of play ground equipment for these special children and our goal is to raise $5,000 this year. We know that you will want to participate in this worthwhile endeavor so that no child will Children at play.
