Page 16-THE NEWS-October 1991 Infanl/Toddler Nursery School Introduces Its Excellent Statf By Nancy Bernstein Nursery school is GREAT! Everyone had an easy time adjusting to school, getting into daily routines and making new friends. Who ever imagined being one-year-old could be so much fun. We are happy to introduce you to the wonderful staff we have for the program. Christy Hipp and Angie Habenicht are in the infant room. Christy has been with the program for sev eral months and has a degree in Elementary Education from UNCC. Angie has been with the program for the past year and a half and has extensive expe rience working with infants and toddlers. Peggy Polito is new to the program this year and has Come in and play! Let’s be already proved to be a tremen dous asset to our program. Beth Barber will be a substitute whenever needed. Charlotte Hicham and Liliya Vakhovsky will be teaching in the full day toddler room. Charlotte will be the lead teacher and comes to the program with extensive experience as a Preschool Direc tor and Child Care Worker. She also has experience in movement education, arts and crafts and music. We will look forward to nearing her play her guitar and sing with all of the children. Liliya has worked for the pro gram for the past year and has a degree in Early Childhood Education from the Soviet Union. Sally Fredericks and Dixie Mazur are teaching in our half day toddler room. Sally started with our program two years ago and has extensive experience with preschool aged children. Dixie worked this summer in our preschool summer camp and has had a variety of experiences working with toddlers. All of our teachers friends! Photos/Althea Cole work well together to make this year’s Infant/Toddler Program the best ever! They have many fun activities and lesson plans designed for all of the children to learn through play, imagina tion and creative outlets. The Infant/Toddler annual “DISCOVERY TOY”party will be Oct. 18 and 19, 8:30-9:30 a.m. and on Oct. 18 also, 5-6 p.m. It is never too early to start holiday shopping or have a ready supply of birthday pres ents. The program receives a percentage of all sales in free toys. This enables the program to keep new, working, age ap propriate toys all year long. Please support the program’s needs and the children’s wants. Applications are currently being accepted for the fall half and full day programs. In order to be eligible, a child must be at least six months old and no more than 24 months old by Oct. 16. For more information or to schedule a tour of the program, call 366-5007. Do we believe in reincarnation? This class will blend kaballahistic and Jewish philosophical thoughts on these issues and much more. The course deals with the Jewish people, the Jewish view of life, and the Jewish life cycle. Instructors; Rabbi Robert Seigel Rabbi Scott White 7 p.m.-9 p.m. THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS: HISTORICAL OVERVIEW OF THE JEWISH EXPERIENCE Development of Jewish civilization from its roots in the pagan culture through the appearance of Zionism and the rebirth of the Jewish nation after 2000 years of Jewish homelessness. This all encompassing overview of Jewish history will help us define and confront the major challenges that have faced the Jewish people and to examine their responses. Such historical analysis will help shed light on contem porary Jewish tradition. This class offers the opportunity to read, discuss and enjoy short stories written by a marvelously varied, talented and often neglected group of Jewish women. We will read works by Anzia Yezierska, Esther Kreitman (I.B. Singer’s sister), Tillie Olsen, Grace Paley, Cynthia Ozick, Joan Greenberg, Nessa* Rappoport, E.M. Broner, Lynne Sharon Schwartz, Aviva Cantor, and many others.
