Gifted and Talented School of Art
At JCC Receives Scholarship Gift
The Gifted and Talented
School of Art is celebrating its
third successful and happy year
at the JCC with the announce
ment of two annual one-year
tuition scholarships and three
annual purchase prize awards.
The tuition scholarships are
sponsored jointly by the School
of Art and by the JCC. One
scholarship will be awarded on
the basis of financial need com
bined with artistic merit, and will
be open to application. This
award, to be named the JCC
Gifted Art Award, will be made
based on initial recommenda
tions by the director of the
program, Jillian Goldberg, and
will be adjudicated in May by
the professional staff of the JCC.
The second tuition scholarship
will be awarded to a student in
grade four or above who has
shown outstanding progress,
dedication and talent. This
scholarship will be awarded at
the discretion of the Director of
the School of Art, and will be
named in honor of her late
parents, Freda and Harry
Zausmer. This award will enable
a deserving youngster to culti
vate the spirit of individuality
and creativity which Mrs. Gold
berg’s parents held dear.
Three art purchase awards
will be announced in May at the
opening of the JCC Annual
Exhibition of Child Art from the
Gifted and Talented Center.
These awards will be selected by
an independent panel of child art
professionals. The pieces select
ed will be framed for display in
the JCC permanent collection
and will become part of a col
lection of child art used for
educational research and presen
tations. The students whose
work is chosen will receive
awards of art materials.
Gym Shorts
Hi everyone! For those of you
who were unable to attend the
racquetball exhibition/clinic on
Jan. 12, you missed a great time.
We had 30 people watch a very
exciting racquetball demonstra
tion featuring the 12th and 35th
ranked players in North and
South Carolina: Tim Black and
Paul Cottrell. After the demon
stration Murray Simon, Joanne
Bigel and Neil Eisner enjoyed
getting on the court with Paul
for a free clinic while Mike
Schreibman and Howard Men
delsohn decided to try their luck
in a game against Tim Black.
Next time you are in the gym
look for our new pro shop. We
will have racquets, gloves, socks,
etc. for your convenience.
Our Youth Hoopster League
is underway and the competition
has been excellent. Jeff Horo-
