TERM
Of Greater Charlotie
For Ourselves, For Our
Children, For Israel, Forever
Through a gift to the Jewish
Federation of Greater Charlotte’s
1995 Community Campaign, you
will help keep alive that legacy and
make a difference in thousands of
Jewish lives. Your contribution un
derwrites a wide range of locally-
based and operated Jewish
educational, cultural and social
service programs and agencies.
And of course, it also helps sup
port Israel and fellow Jews in need
worldwide.
Here are examples of how
Federation supports our Jewish
values:
Edocatioii
Touching the youngest to the
oldest members of our commun
ity, campaign funds provide schol
arships to local Jewish pre-schools
for parents in need, and operating
funds for the educational facilities
at Shalom Park, allowing the reli
gious schools run by Temple Beth
El and Temple Israel to provide
more diverse programming. Your
support enables local Hebrew
school teachers to attend annual
conferences to learn how to be
better instructors. F^eration funds
also help bring the fmest Jewish
lecturers to Charlotte, offering a
communitywide learning experi
ence.
Social Services
Campaign dollars support the
Jewish Community Center and
Jewish Family Services, two local
organizations whose programming
and services help provide a well-
rounded, nurturing environment
for local Jewish families. A sub
stantial amount of Federation
fiinds also go to organizations and
programs for the elderly, includ
ing the Blumenthal Home for the
Aged, the JCC’s Chai progmin,
JFS’s geriatric outreach services.
Other beneficiaries of the Cam
paign include the community
Tzedakah fund. Traveler’s Aid,
Crisis Assistance Ministries and
Charlotte Emergency Housing.
Community Building
The Federationsupports a
wide variety of local agencies
which together allow our commu
nity to build for tomorrow. The
JCC receives Campaign funds to
help provide a rich variety of Jew
ish progmmming. Campaign dol
lars underwrite operating costs for
Shalom Park, which enable its
partner organizations. Temple
Beth El, Temple Israel and the
JCC, to use funds for program
ming. Federation dollars spawned
the Learning Leaders program,
whose goal is to unite the leader
ship of both local temples, the
JCC, JFS and Federation in ad
dressing conmmunity concerns
and helping the entire Jewish com
munity grow together. Jewish col
lege students benefit through
Federation’s support of local and
national Hillel. And the campaign
helps fund an annual I«rael Expe
rience Day through the Consoli
dated Hebrew High School that
encourage teenagers to visit Israel.
Israel and Jews Overseas
A percentage of contributions
to the Federation are allocated to
United Jewish Appeal for infra
structure development and social
services in Israel, as the country
struggles to absorb hundreds of
thousands of Jewish immigrants
from the former Soviet Union,
Eastern Europe and Ethiopia.
Thanks to the generosity of Jew
ish conmiunities everywhere, more
than a half-million Jews have es
caped religious persecution in
these areas and resettled in Israel
and the U.S., including Charlotte,
since 1990. What’s more, some
6,000 olim continue to arrive in
Israel every month. Also with Fed
eration ftmds, the Joint
Distnbution Committee provides
needed services to re-emerging
Jewish communities throughout
the worid.
By supporting the 1995 Fed
eration Community Campaign,
you strengthen the agencies and
organizations which are meeting
the educational, social service and
cultural needs of our local Jewish
conununity, as well as its counter
parts abroad. Our contributions
unify us, and underline a joint
conunitment to:
♦ Educate our children
♦ Care for our elderly
♦ Perpetuate Jewish culture
♦ Develop leadership
♦ Build community
♦ Plan for tomorrow
Please give generously to the
’95 Federation Community Cam
paign. Thank you.
