Page 12 - The Charlotte Jewish News - September, 1995 Consolidated High School Sue lirodskN- Dircctoi The Consolidated High School of Jewish Studies of Charlotte will open its doors to students on Wednesday, F'^ptember 6. We are proud to welcome several new teachers to our faculty. Mrs. Roberta Malickson, a teacher at South Charlotte Middle School, will teach the eighth grade core class, “Building Blocks to Jewish Iden tity”, which focuses on the teach ing of the sacred texts that shape our identity as Jews. Mr. Marc Titlebaum, a former beloved teacher at CHS, will co-teach with Mrs. Malickson Mr. Titlebaum, who is employed at Cato Corporation, has returned to Charlotte after living in Greenville, South Carolina for two years. Cantor Linda Shepherd, who has recently moved to Charlotte from Chicago to work at Temple Beth El, will teach “Women in Ju daism” during the second session, “Jewish Cooking” will be taught by Mrs. Debby Rosenberger, who is Office Administrator at Crews and Klein ‘Torah and Specialty Tropes.” “The World of Jewish Music”, and “The American Experience in Song” will be taught by Temple Israel’s new cantor. Cantor Elias Roochvarg. .Our Wednesday night Post Confirmation Class teaching team will be headed by Mr. Dan Lepow, who is currently Director of the Carolinas’ Region of the Weizmann Institute of Science. These six new staff members will join our returning group of very tal ented and dedicated teachers, who have each worked hard to create the special atmosphere that has made our school a haven for the Jewish teenagers in Charlotte. Our return ing teachers are: Rabbi James Bennett, Mrs. Roz Cooper, Mr. Sam Eneman, Rabbi Murray Ezring, Ms. Jennifer Foley, Rabbi Yossi Groner, Mrs. Susan Jacobs, Mr. Arthur Kramer, Mr. David Lash, Mrs. Vicki Neumann, and Mr. Arthur Tirsun Each of our teachers contributes in a unique way to bring a love of Judaism and the Jewish people to our eighth through twelfth grade students in Charlotte. Sharon Amity 365-8697 Park Road S/C 527-1921 Charlotte Jewish Preschool Expands & Improves The 1995 - 96 Preschool year is well underway. As Charlotte’s Jewish community grows, the Pre school has found it necessary to expand also. We are proud to an nounce that CJP has added two new classes to our program to accom modate our newly relocated Jewish families. TTie Charlotte Jewish Pre school now serves 140 families, with fifteen different classes from a two day 2’s to the five day 4’s, in cluding an extended full day pro gram. On August 28, the halls and classrooms at the Preschool were full of new and returning students, eager with anticipation to meet their teachers and new classmates. Par ents and children alike were de lighted to see each classroom and learning center, filled with new books, toys and manipulatives, pro-' vided in part, by the funds from the Preschool’s enthusiastic and very active. Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). Additions to the Pre-K and four year old programs will be a computer learning center and a woodworking table complete with hammers, nails and goggles! Of course, all the parents and children are excited about the reno vation of the Big playground. Ev eryone in the community is encouraged to help install this cus- tom-designed playstructure on Sep tember 10. It will be a wonderful addition to Shalom Park, that all the children will enjoy for many years. The Preschool Director, Debby Block, recently returned from the National CAJE conference in Mas sachusetts, which provided her with a wonderful opportunity to enhance the Preschool’s Judaica resource materials; purchasing posters, vid eos and games with funds provided by the PTO. ‘Today’s Special”, the Preschool’s bi-weekly music pro gram will continue this year. A num ber of musical guests have already been booked to share this time with us. The Preschool is looking for ward to visits from Cantor Shep herd and Cantor Roochvarg, as well as Rabbi Jim. The Preschool is con tinuing its participation in the ex tremely popular Fine Arts Enrichment program at Spirit Square. Our extended Preschool Pro gram looks forward to the addition of weekly gymnastic classes, spe cial storytime, as well as a monthly “surprise” activity. These new fea tures, in addition, to our literature- based curriculum makes for an exciting and busy afternoon.
