Cliarlotte
Da
David S. Citron,
^Chairman of the Physi
cians and Dentists Division of the
Jewish Federation of Greater Char
lotte, announced the establishment
of a Maimonides Society.
Centuries ago, the eminent
Jewish scholar and physician,
Maimonides, authored a special
prayer for fellow physicians. It has
come to epitomize the essence of
what a health care professional
strives for in his or her daily woik.
Those who take the oath commit
themselves to the highest ideals of
the health care profession.
Dr. Citron said, “We have es
tablished the Maimonides Society
here in Charlotte to honor
Maimonides’ memory and to rec
ognize the special leadership of
Qiarlotte’s Jewish physicians and
dmtists in health, scholasship, edu
cation and philanthropy.” Citron
continued, “For many years, Jew
ish physicians and dentists have
been among the leaders of the Char
lotte Jewish community, giving
freely of their time and dollars to
support quality Jewish life. Several
physicians and dentists have under
taken leadership roles of the
Federation’s annual campaigns in
the past and continue to give their
time and efforts in these capacities.
"While we are all very excited
about the development of this af
finity group, the original concept
dates back some 20 years, to 1976,
when a Maimonides Society event
was convened at Raintree Country
Club under the leadership of Dr.
Robert Yudell. Dr. Philip Naumoff,
the first Jewish [rfiysician in Char
lotte, was also one of the prime
movers in the formation of the So
ciety.”
Dr. David S. Citron
The newly organized
Maimonides Society’s inaugural
event was held on Tuesday, Febm-
ary 27 at the Park Hotel. The guest
