Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Business
Administration.
Jennifer Paige Roberts,

Charlotte with a Master of Arts in
Clinical Psychology.
Nicole Kossove, who studies
ballet at the North Carolina
School of the Arts in Winston-
Salem, was awarded the school’s
Chancellor’s All-School
Scholarship for Excellence.
Nicole is the daughter of Dr.
George and Kathy Hall and
David and Kathryn Kossove.
Paul Cohen, son of Jodi and
Dr. Stuart Cohen, recently
attained one of the highest scores
possible on the North Carolina
state writing exam. When com
pared to other students in North
Carolina, his writing skills are
among the highest. Paul is a ris
ing fifth-grader at the Jewish Day
School of Charlotte.
Ory Warshenbrot, rising
junior at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been
named to the Dean’s List. Ory is
the son of Amalia and Avi
Warshenbrot and a graduate of
Harding High School in
Charlotte.
Joshua Hantman, son of
Barry and Felicia Hantnan, grad
uated summa cum laude from
UNC-Charlotte and will be
attending medical school at the
University of Hawaii.
Joseph Brian I\ilman, son
of Stanley and Elkie Tulman, is
the winner of the 11th Annual
Livingston Hall Juvenile Justice
Award from the American Bar
Association. As a professor at the
District of Columbia School of
Law he created the Juvenile Law
Clinic and pioneered a new
approach to juvenile advocacy
that views delinquency proceed
ings as opportunity to obtain edu
cational services tor his clients—
services that enable children to
positively participate in their
communities and schools instead
of retuming to the juvenile justice
system.
Emily Lara Bedrick was
selected to attend the 1996 N. C.
Governor’s School with a con
centration in Natural Science.
She received the Top Scholar
Award for the 1997 Class of
Charlotte Country Day School.
This is the fourth time she has
won the award which is presented
to the student with the highest
scholastic average for the year.
Emily was the recipient of the
Yale Book Award for
Outstanding Personal Character
and Intellectual Promise. She was
also selected to attend the 1996
National Youth Leadership
Forum on Medicine. Emily
Bedrick is a rising senior at
Charlotte Country Day School.

officiated and Dr. Claude Broach
blessed the marriage. The bride is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Bittinger and David
Drinkard of Charlotte. She gradu
ated from East Mecklenburg
High School and Meredith
College. The groom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stein of
Charlotte. He graduated from
East Mecklenburg High School,
UNC-Chapel Hill and Wake
Forest Law School.
Dana Hope Marshall and
Michael Hubbe planned a July
27, 1996 wedding in New York.
She is the daughter of Dr. and
Mrs. Barry Marshall of Charlotte
and is a Corporate Sales Manager
for Doral Hotels of New York. He
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Hubbe of Mamaroneck, N.Y. and
is a Vice-President at Bear,
Steams in New York.
Scher Named National ‘‘Life Saver”
Mecklenburg County
Commissioner Lloyd Scher is one
of 20 individuals nationwide to
receive the inaugural Life Savers
Take a Bigger Role award. As part
of introducing a larger roll of its
candy last summer, the LifeSavers
Company sponsored a national
awards program to reward those
who take a bigger role in their
community.
LifeSavers will donate $500
to five charities of Scher’s choice.
Scher will also give $500 of his
own money. Albemarle Road
Middle School PTA, the Metro
School PTA, Hearing Unpaired
Program at Cotswold Elementary
School PTA, Idlewild Elementary
School PTA and Orthopedically
Impaired Class at Oakhurst
Elementary School will receive
$200 each.
Scher is serving his second
term as County Commissioner for
District 4.
Lloyd Scher has been active
in a number of schools including
Albemarle Road Elementary,
Piney Grove Elementary,
Oakhurst Elementary, Albemarle
Road Jr. High, Eastway Middle,
Garinger High, and Myers Park
High.

the Richard H. Hagemeyer
Educational Advancement
Award, the highest honor given
