Convention
Amalia Warshenbrot of the
Speizman Library at the JCC
attended the 31st Annual
Convention of The Association
of Jewish Libraries in June in
Toronto. More than 185 atten
dees from Argentina, Canada,
England, Israel, Puerto Rico and
the United States met for three
and one-half days of programs
and special events. The conven
tion theme was “Culture and
Community—A Jewish Commit
ment.” Amalia attended a contin
uing education (CCU) course on
library automation and the
Internet. The convention featured
a marketplace with displays from
forty of the finest vendors of
Judaica literature, art and tech
nology.

Temple Israel, the Jewish
Federation of Greater Charlotte,

Holocaust Poem

“The March To Tyrol”
was written by the late Dr.
Samuel Salman Griliches.
The subject is the last-ditch
attempt of the Nazi S.S. to
murder the Jewish prisoners
at Dachau which took place
from April to early May,
1945.
Mikhl Baran read the
poem over radio station
WEVD in June and it has
been published in
Algemeiner Journal,
Cache let, Hadoar, La-
Mishpachah, Der Onhoyb
and Jerusalem of Lithuania.
The author’s son will send
you the poem if you request
it and send him a self-
addressed envelope (#10
size). The poem was written
in Yiddish and comes with
two different Hebrew trans
lations.

1995 award winners. Chosen as
the two best Jewish books for
children published in 1995, both
are powerful Holocaust stories.
Star of Fear, Star of Hope by
Jo Hoestlandt tells about nine-
year-old Helen whose Jewish
Wend disappears one night during
the German occupation of Paris. It
offers hope to the younger reader
against the backdrop of personal
loss and communal tragedy.
Dancing on the Bridge of
Avignon by Ida Vos is a story for
older children and takes place in
the Netherlands in 1942. Jewish
children fearlessly confront Nazi
regulations on their lives.
