Mint Museum
Hosts Series
The Mint Museum of Art on
Randolph Road in Charlotte and
the Manor Theater on
Providence Road will be hosting
a special film series from
September 29 - October 30,
1997 called Conflict and Peace:
Recent Israeli and Palestinian
Film.
The films will be shown on
Sunday, Monday or Thursday.
The first film in the series is
a Palestinian film by Michel
Khleifi called Tale of the Three
Jewels. The story, filmed in
Gaza, is a mixture of realism and
allegory about a Palestinian
boy’s love for a young Gypsy
girl. It will be shown at the
Manor on Sunday, September 29
at 12 noon, with a $4 admission
charge. That evening at the Mint
Museum there will remarks by
the filmmakers, with dessert and
coffee to follow at 8:00 pm. The
evening film showing will be On
the Edge of Peace which was
directed by Ilan Ziv. It was co
produced by Ilan Ziv, Israeli,;
Amit Breuer, Israeli; and Daoud
Kattab, Palestinian. Admission
to the event is $10.
Jerusalem: Rhythms of a
Distant City, to be shown on
September 30, is an impression
istic portrait of the many aspects
of the city. With no narration,
this short film conveys the com
plexity and vitality of Jerusalem
and will leave the viewer with a
vivid visual memory. Following
it will be You, Me. Jerusalem
which was co-directed by an
Israeli and a Palestinian. It
focuses on the working relation
ship between an Arab doctor and
a Jewish paramedic and their
loyalties. It is a warm and
humanistic film that knits
together a web of optimism.
The film on October 3 is All
Hell Broke Loose. Curfew will
be shown October 6 at noon and
Ever Shot Anyone? will be
shown that evening at 8 pm with
a panel discussion.
Look Out and Forbidden
Marriages in the Holy Land are
scheduled for October 7. Arena
of Murder is planned for October
13. Wedding in Gallilee con
cludes the series on October 20.
