Temple Israel Men’s Club is bring ing one of the nation’s leading author ities on countering Hebrew- Christianity, Rabbi Tovia Singer, to Charlotte March 13 -IS. The theme of the weekend ‘Their Target: Our Children,” is an effort to alert parents of Jewish high school and college students to the threat posed by “Evangelical Christians dressed up in traditional Jewish clothing.” Events scheduled include a Friday evening dinner with Rabbi Singer, a presentation during Saturday morning services and a special workshop co sponsored by the Consolidated High School for Grades 9-12 Sunday morn ing. Rabbi Singer is Director of OUT REACH JUDAISM, a full-time national organization dedicated to countering the efforts of Christian groups and cults that target Jews for conversion. “Hebrew-Christians,” also known as “messianic Jews,” are the foot sol diers in a rapidly growing movement funded largely by evangelical Christians. These groups dress Christian worship in Jewish symbols and traditions in an effort to win new converts. Rabbi Singer authored a guidebook called “Countering Hebrew-Christianity,” published by the Federation of Jewish Men’i Clubs, an arm of the Conservative Movement. The curriculum outlined in the book lepresents the first orga nized response to messianic Judaism. Jews must be aUe to recognize their tactics and have enough knowledge to counter their auertiou. To this end. Rabbi Singer has been woriung to ec^p high school and coU^ students with information and an adM ciation of theu’ Jewish heriti>se. O
