1999 JCC Maccabi Games
Believe it or not, it’s time to begin thinking about next year’s
JCC Maccabi Games scheduled for Houston, TX August 8-13,
1999 if you are a Jewish teenager between the ages of 13-16
years (birthdates by August 1, 1999).
Preliminary reports from Houston indicate that the following
sports may be offered: Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Chess,
Cross Country, Dance, Golf, Gymnastics, Racquetball, Soccer,
Softball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track & Field and
Volleyball. Once again, interested athletes will be able to par
ticipate in only one (1) sport plus either the cross country and
or track & field competitions.
Based on the overwhelming success of the 1998 JCC
Maccabi Games here in Charlotte and the 137 member Team
Charlotte 1998 local delegation, we would love to be able to
send at least 60+ Charlotte athletes to represent our local com
munity in this international special event. It is anticipated that
between 1000-1200 Jewish teenagers will be hosted in
Houston.
Any age-eligible Jewish teen with an interest in being a part
of Team Charlotte 1999 - Houston should plan, along with a
parent, to attend the first informational meeting about the 1999
JCC Maccabi Games on Monday, November 16 at 7:00pm at
the JCC. Relevant items such as finances, delegation allot
ments, etc. will be addressed at this meeting which should last
no more than one hour.
Local delegation co-chairmen, David Van Glish and Steve
Coen, along with JCC Health & Recreation Director Barry
Schumer look forward to seeing all interested parties at the
meeting as we begin the kick-ofT of yet another fantastic, fun-
filled JCC Maccabi Games experience.
