The Charlotte Jewish News - May 2002 - Page 9 Speizman Jewish Library Summer Reading Club Read and Celebrate Israel The summer break is almost here. This is a great time to encourage your child to read a book for pleasure, and at the same time, to have a chance of winning two prizes — one from the Speizman Jewish Library and one from the Jewish Community Library of Los Angeles. If you happened to read the children’s essays in the April issue of The Charlotte Jewish News, you might have noticed that most of the read ers wrote that they did not know that there were so many books with Jewish content. Here is an easy way to intro duce your child to Jewish litera ture written for children. The Jewish Community Library of Los Angeles sponsors a national read ing incentive program every year and the participants come from all over the US. This is the first year it will be web-based (on the Internet) and this is the first year a theme has been chosen: Read and Celebrate Israel. Charlotte children are invited to take part in the reading program and stand with Israel at the same time. The thought of travel to Israel might seem like a long way off, but children can travel to Israel this summer with their minds and hearts. We can promote Jewish literacy and show Israel that it is not alone. We can keep Israel in our hearts and on our lips by joining this summer reading club. How can you find books to read about Israel? Visit the www.Jclla.org website to see a suggested reading list or stop by the Speizman Jewish Library in Shalom Park to check out one of the books that appears in the read ing list on this page. Children are invited to come by the Speizman Jewish Library to pick up a book star for an addi tional prize from us. The book stars will also be available at the Temples. For more information, please call us at 704-944-6763 or email Speizman_Iibrary@shalomchar- lotte.org or info@jclIa.org.^ Jewish Hours: Sundays: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM Mondays: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM - 3:45 PM Hiesdays: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM - 3:45 PM Wednesdays: Evenings only, 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM Thursdays: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM - 5:15PM Fridays & Saturdays: CLOSED The hours change during schools vacations.
