By installing donat ed air conditioners, the Temple Israel Men’s Club provided an important Mitzvah. The men who volunteered their time, under the direction of Michael Abadi and Alan Sussman, have truly been lifesavers. Community Building and Neighborhood Development, a division of United Family Services, and the Men’s Club have worked together this year to pro vide these air conditioners to the Brookhill Community Association. Morrocrofl Village 3900 Colony Road 704.366.4523 Since families are at the heart of Jewish life, the Temple Israel has formed its newest group, P.A.L.S. (Parents and Little Ones Schmoozing). Under the profes sional guidance of Rabbi Ari Sunshine and leadership of Allison Karp, Margaret Musa and Stephanie Tuckman, families with children seven and younger will gather to schmooze, play, cele brate, learn and ultimately spark our children’s love of their Jewish community. Because Sukkot is the time for hospitality, we have chosen it as the occasion of our first gathering. We will dress comfortably and meet on September 25 at 5:45 PM in Temple Israel’s Sukkah for a festive evening of “Pizza in the Hut.” Rabbi Sunshine will share a story and teach some songs, we will make a Sukkot craft and enjoy a meal of pizza with all the trimmings. If you want to attend “Pizza in the Hut,” volunteer to help or just want more information, please call Allison Karp at 704-847- 6141, Margaret Musa at 704-845- 0907, Stephanie Tuckman at 704- 588-6048, or Rabbi Sunshine at 704-362-2796. 4* Be Inspired on the High Holidays at Ohr HaTorah Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are the most important days on the Jewish calendar. This is the time of year when we renew our commitment to God, and God renews his commitment to the world. It is no wonder why an overwhelming majority of Jews make an effort to attend services at the synagogue during the Holy Days. Congregation Ohr HaTorah offers traditional Orthodox servic es and is open to all Jews in the greater Charlotte area. The servic es will be lead by Rabbi Binyomin Weiss with his melodious voice. Rabbi Yossi Groner will insert brief meditations during the serv ice, to help worshippers with the flow of the service. The High Holiday experience, at Ohr HaTorah allows the participants to feel the deep meaning of these days in a spiritual and fulfilling way that leaves a lasting affect. Junior Congregation at Ohf HaTorah is a wonderful opportu nity for children to participate in the services of the holidays. Children will learn about the sig nificance of the day through sto ries and illustrations. Baby-sitting will also be available for younger children. High Holiday services are held evenings at 7:30 PM and C ongrcgation orali I upro^acjl.ukirviiciinSSorihCarifUmf mornings at 9:00 AM. All services will be held at Congregation Ohr HaTorah, 6619 Sardis Road in Charlotte. After Yom Kippur, the commu nity makes the joyous transition to celebrate the festival of Sukkot. Ohr HaTorah will host a family Sukkot party on Tuesday, September 24 at the synagogue’s giant Sukkah on Sardis Road. A full holiday picnic will be served, and there will also be entertain ment for children. Saturday night, September 28, is Simchai Torah night, the happi est day in Judaism. Simchat Torah at Ohr HaTorah has earned a reputation for gen uine unadulterated and expressive joy experienced by adults and children.
