Fall Semester at the
Charlotte Torah Center
The CTC presents a ten class
series titled “Fundamentals of
Judaism” by Rabbi Roizman, on
Tuesday mornings starting
October 15 through December 17.
Classes will be educational, rele
vant and interactive. Topics
include meaning of life, five mis
conceptions in Judaism, love and
marriage, parenting, and much
more. Classes will be held at the
Center. Cost: $100.00 for the
semester. For registration and

Additionally, Professor
Richard Cohen (UNCC) will be
giving a class on “The Rise of
Denominational Judaism in
America,” on Wednesday
September 16 at 7:00 PM at the

When Chaim Potok passed
away this summer, he left us a
legacy of remarkable and beloved
writings. Temple Israel’s October
14th book club meeting will dis
cuss Old Men at Midnight, pub
lished just a year ago. This trilogy
of related novellas are told by old
men, as they “roar with rage
against the void” and carry us
from the Holocaust to Stalinist
Russia.
The discussion will be led by
Dr. Jay Jacoby, Professor of
Literature at UNCC, and a
favorite meeting facilitator among
Temple Israel Book Club regulars.
Copies of Old Men at Midnighi
are available at the Speizman
Jewish Library, the public library
and may be purchased at book
stores or on-line for about $15.
Rosh HaShanah and Yom
Kippur are times when all of us
are “at midnight” - when we look
forward as well as backward. The
October 14 meeting should be a
memorable conclusion to these
