This trilogy of related novellas are told by old men, as they “roar with rage against the void” and carry us from the Holocaust to Stalinist Russia. The discussion will be led by Dr. Jay Jacoby, Professor of Literature at UNCC, and a favorite meeting facilitator among Temple Israel Book Club regulars. Copies of Old Men at Midnighi are available at the Speizman Jewish Library, the public library and may be purchased at book stores or on-line for about $15. Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur are times when all of us are “at midnight” - when we look forward as well as backward. The October 14 meeting should be a memorable conclusion to these days of awe.
