The evening began under the shelter of the Temple Israel sukkah with some ruach- fiiled singing with Rabbi Ezring, Rabbi Sunshine, and Cantor Roochvarg, along with reciting the blessings over the lulav and etrog and sitting in the sukkah. Having managed to avoid the threat of imminent rain, we moved inside for a delicious dinner of pizza and salad and a craft project of making Sukkah placemats. The Temple was bustling with activity, filled with the joyous sounds of families cel ebrating Sukkot and socializ ing together. We would like to extend a big thank you and a hearty “ya-asher ko-ach” to the P.A.L.S. coordinators, Allison Karp, Margaret Musa, and Stephanie Tuckman, for all of their hard work in making this program a success. We are already busy planning our next P.A.L.S. program, which will take place during Hanukkah. For more information about our P.A.L.S. program, contact Rabbi Ari Sunshine, 704-362-2796. b Steven and Gabriel Novack admire the sukkah. Torah, Light and Philosophy at Ohr HaTorah in November The month of November usual ly marks the beginning of the dark winter days. However, this year, November comes to symbolize light with the early arrival of Hanukkah on Friday, November 29, just before Shabbat. Congregation Ohr HaTorah will mark the month of November with a host of wonderful activities that will add to the light of Hanukkah. Rabbi Yehuda Clapman, the scribe who is writ ing the new Torah for Charlotte, will appear at Ohr HaTorah on Sunday, November 10 at 6:(X) PM with scroll in hand, to continue some of the writing in Charlotte. There are still some portions available for sponsorship, along with many verses and letters. Rabbi Clapman will give a special presentation on how a new Torah is made from scratch to final scroll. This exciting and informa tive program is greatly recom mended for families as a wonder ful Jewish learning experience. Rabbi Clapman’s presentation is part of the Jewish Cultural Arts Festival of the Charlotte Jewish community. “Is there morality without God?” is the topic of discussion with noted Jewish philosopher and lecturer. Dr. Yitzchok Block. A graduate of Harvard’s School of Philosophy where he received his Ph.D., Dr. Block now resides in London, Ontario, where he teach es at the University of Ontario.
