Eric Lerner (704)536-8337 We all know that you can’t keep grandparents away from their grandchild. This was defi nitely the case on October 17 and 18 at the Jewish Preschool on Sardis. Its first ever Grandparent’s Day attracted more than 100 bubbehs and zeidehs. Traveling from all parts of the world. New York. Connecticut, Florida and even Scotland, grandpar ents just couldn’t be kept away. You can see why! The teachers and administrators worked diligently to ensure that grandparents, and other loved ones, got a good look into the school day of their little ones. This special day began long before the dates they were held. Planning began last summer. About three weeks prior to the event, grandparents received a photo postcard of their grandchild inviting them to join the children at school. Who could resist? The day began with busi ness as usual: play, play, play. Back in the class room, grandparents were given the opportunity to share the morning with their grandchild: cir cle time, singing songs, dancing, painting and doing special craft proj ects. Students were thrilled to show off all they’d learned for their guests, and the adults were equally impressed. New Madrichim Certification Program at CHS By Stephanie DiPaolo The Consolidated Hebrew High School of Jewish Studies is offering, for the first time, a Madrichim Workshop, for both students of Temple Israel and Temple Beth El. This required course will be offered each ses sion and is for all first-year Madrichim and those who would like to be Madrichim. The course, currently taught by Stephanie DiPaolo, is to provide the teacher assistants (Madrichim) the tools to be effective in the classroom and work in tandem with the lead teachers. Students learn proper terminology, their role and responsibility in the classroom, and child develop ment. Ally Hunt and Liz Makley are making friends at Hebrew High. fun, creative Jewish learning through puzzles and games. The class will also take part in a panel discussion with current Madrichim who are at the teach ing level to discuss their insights and suggestions for new teaching assistants. Isaac Spil, Evan Klein and Josh Lipack clown it up for the camera Much time is spent acting out potential situations, whether it’s a problem child, or managing the classroom if a teacher is absent. Students receive practical tools for engaging their classrooms in Madrichot Alex Zelm, Sarah Kowitt and Jessica Litt. The class has demonstrated their knowledge of things learned so far through a highly competi tive game of Madrichim Jeopardy. This joint effort between Temple Israel, Temple Beth El and the Hebrew High School will benefit all students in both of the religious schools, and encourage those interested in turning his or her Madrichim experience into the foundation for a life as a Jewish educator.
