Pikado, who immigrated with out her parents and walked through the Sudan for nine days, calls Yemin Orde home. “I had nowhere else to go,” she admits. Now a graduate of Yemin Orde and a nurse in Israel, Pikado enjoys great satisfaction from tak ing care of pregnant Ethiopian women who are scared and alone as she was once alone. Also a home for young immi grant children, and part of the Yemin Orde communities, Talpiot Children’s Village is a major cen ter for education, counseling and treatment of hundreds of disadvan taged children from Hadera and the surrounding neighborhoods. The majority of Talpiot’s children are from Ethiopia and Russia; the rest are native Israelis. One of the newest and most innovative initiatives at Talpiot is an after-school program that your community dollars help to support. This program is located in our partnership region of Hadera. The “at-risk children” who are enrolled in the after-school pro gram are aged five to eight and are from local immigrant families. The program, which runs from 1-7 OOPS!!
