The Charlotte Jewish News -May 2004 - Page 13 Pesach Fun Day at Gorelick Hall As a special feature of our expanded Judaica curricu lum, the third, fourth, and fifth graders at Charlotte Jewish Day School have been working diligently on unique projects related to Pesach, Students from these three grades brought the story of Pesach to life as they demonstrated and explained their projects to one another and to the other CJDS .students. Each of the third grade Judaica students created a pres entation depicting one aspect of the Passover Seder. Dioramas, day models, and posters were used to demon strate the fifteen steps of the Seder. The fourth graders were assigned to five different groups to explain the his tory of Pesach to the rest of the school. Using tape record ings, posters, and games, the.se talented students shared the story of Pesach with the rest of the CJDS .students with their projects, including Seder Plate, Seder Waiters, Calendar, Storytellers, and Chametz-Busters. Fifth-grade Judaica students became world-famous inventors as they created such Pesach “machines" as chametz vacuum cleaners, maror choppers, “Passover in a Can” meals, and special eyeglas.ses that allowed them to see the coming of Elijah the Prophet at the Seder feast. Also included in the program were opportunities to distinguish between chametz and non-chametz food products, as the students learned how to read labels to search for ingredients that make the item chametz. As the students moved from station to station, they designed beautiful and unique sand art pictures of matzah and the ancient city of Jerusalem, then manufactured their own charosot as they chopped apples and walnuts to mix with cinnamon aitd grape juice, as a special treat to share with their parents. Each year, our Judaica programming becomes more exciting. This year’s event presented the Pesach story in a unique and most informative way that was easily under stood and enjoyed by students of all ages.
