The Charlotte Jewish News -October 2004 - Page 17 Capital Maccabi Time in the Capital City Team Charlotte accounted for a total of 37 medals, 33 coming from It was yet another fantastic week at the JCC Maccabi Games this summer as thirty-three members of Team Charlotte traveled to our nation’s cap ital city - Washington, DC. Washington was one of four host cities to welcome JCC Maccabi Games athletes this year and was by far the single largest site of games with almost 2300 total ath letes (1800+ visiting and (Back row, l-r)Coach Dan Vizzini and the 450+ local DC athletes) Maccabi tennis boys, Nate Menaker, Andrew participating. Anyway one Putterman, Andrew Parker; fron l-r, Ian looks at it, that number Mesoznik, David Raphael, Scott Gould reflects a very large number of Jewish teenagers congregating to participate in thirteen different sport competitions, a Day of Caring/Day of Sharing communi ty-service project and evening social activities. But it all came off without any major glitches. Our Team Charlotte delegation consisted of a full boys 16U bas ketball team, a mixed boys 14U soccer team (combined team with Vancouver JCC and the Palisades, NJ JCC players), a mixed boys 16U in-line hockey team (a first- ever in-line team combined with Vancouver JCC and Virginia Beach JCC players), tennis/rac- our four swimmers, two from our track and field athletes and two from our racquetball' players. Our boy’s 16U basketball team did manage to finish with a 3-3 record in a very tough bracket, with wins over very good teams from Central Queens, NY, Rockland, NY and Long Beach, CA. And while our mixed soccer and in-line hockey teams were not able to break into the “win column” against very strong competition from major metropolitan cities, they gave 100% effort every time they took the field/court and were very close to winning a number of games.. Congratulations to each and every one of the 33 Team Charlotte athletes for their efforts and energies while on the field of play and for their exemplary behavior both on and off the field of play. Specific individual medals were awarded to: Morgan Bober (swim) - Gold: Girls 13-14 100m Swimmers Rebecca Gerger and Morgan freestyle, Girls 13-14 100m Bober ham it up for the camera. quetball players, swimmers and track & field athletes.
