The Charlotte Jewish News - May 2005 - Page 2 JEWISH^ FEDEMTION^ Local, Global, Eternal Federation News JEWISH^ FEDEMTION^ Local, Global, Eternal Your Federation Dollar at Work The Charlotte Jewish Preschool The Charlotte Jewish Preschool was created 18 years ago as joint effort between Temple Beth El and Temple Israel. With help from these agencies, the Jewish Community Center and the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte, CJP has grown to what it is today: an institution that provides excel lent preschool education within an enriched Jewish environment to 206 enrolled children between the ages of one and five years old. CJP also operates a daycare licensed by the state of NC. CJP currently has 216 regis tered students for next school year. The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte’s funding pro vides scholarship opportunities for these children to attend. CJP’s Developmental Learning approach offers hands-on activi ties and age appropriate materials that encourage creativity and self- expression. Purposeful playing is an important component to this philosophy. The children look like they are just “playing,” but actual ly they are doing much more. They are learning social, intellec tual, and.physical skills. They are challenging their minds, becom ing curious about the world around themselves, and gaining self-esteem as individuals. Social skills, language arts, math, science, arts, and dramatic play are integrated into the classes in a developmental fashion.
