Noted for its excellence in after noon programs, Oasis brings in professors from surrounding col leges and universities; specialized artists and musicians; politicians; commentators and professionals from various businesses and agen cies to offer interactive discus sions on various topics. Some of the topics include: current events and politics; religion; art and music therapies; cutting edge health education; as well as vari ous cultural studies to name a few. Need something more hands on? Specialty classes and work shops are also added to the pro gram to offer a hands-on pursuit of the arts. Additionally, our resi dent writing instructor, Barbara Lawing, leads poetry and creative writing classes every Monday as well as an in-house Writers’ Retreat the first Thursday of each month. Oasis is also home to the “Charlotte Movie Club” which meets first Thursdays monthly at the Levine JCC and uses film to provoke questions about who we are and what our purpose is. A cin ematic discussion and lunch always follow the screening. Still not convinced? Hear it from our participants! As one Oasis member explains, “In inter acting with my peers, I realize that age can’t be stereotyped. Personalities remain the same.” Another participant notes that Oasis gives her life “structure - no floating in time,” while a third comments that her writing has “improved” and reveals, ‘T am an attorney and write like one but Barbara Lawing is helping me to be other than lawyer-like.” If you are interested in attend ing the Oasis Senior Enrichment Program, please contact Stephanie Glick at 704-944-6730. The first time is free. 4*
