The Charlotte Jewish News - January 2007 - Page 19 Our Kids are in the Newz By Amalia Warshenbrot, Resource Center's Director The Levine-Sklut Judaic Library Resource Center offers each year a program to promote Jewish Literacy among young Sarah Klein readers. We created guidelines for book critiques from the Jewish point of view. Sarah Klein, a fifth grade student at Temple Beth El religious school came with her class and wrote a book review (see below). Her review was selected to be pub lished by the children’s magazine Babaganewz. Mazel Tov Sarah. You make the library staff and your teacher, Tammy Seigel, very proud. Bar Mitzvah Lessons, by Martin Elsant Reviewed by Sarah R. Klein, 5th Grade, Temple Beth El Bar Mitzvah Lessons is a great book about a boy named David who has to overcome his fear of speaking in front of people. His parents hire “the best of the best” to help David prepare to read from the Torah at his bar mitzvah, but after David scares off five differ ent rabbis, they finally turn to Reuven Weiss, “the worst of the worst.” Find out if David, with Reuven’s help, can overcome his fears. I chose to read this book because I will have my bat mitz vah in just a few short years and I thought it might give me advice. It certainly did. It had a great mes sage of trying until you succeed. I would recommend this book to anyone. Donations to JLRC in November 2006 We acknowledge with gratitude the following donations to the Levine-Sklut Judaic Library and Resource Center. These donations allow us to expand the collection of books, DVDs, videos, maps, posters, games and various teach ing aids. The entire community will benefit from these thoughtful gifts.
