FCJC Assists Endowment Building
Efforts with Monthly Education Sessions
By Alan Kronovet
As the community looks to
build its planned giving/endow
ment programs, one of the key
roles of the Foundation for the
Charlotte Jewish Community is to
help the leadership of our commu
nity agencies in their efforts. As
part of this effort FCJC is holding
meetings once a month at Shalom
Park. These meetings led by
FCJC’s Director for Planned
Giving, Phil Warshauer, focused
on educating the community’s
agencies about planned
giving/endowments.
In April of this year, FCJC held
the first of these monthly endow
ment educational sessions. The
first session was an introduction to
planned giving. We discussed the
difference between planned giv
ing/endowments and annual giv
ing and described the long term
benefits of developing a planned
giving/endowment program. The
second session, held in May,
focused on creating endowments
and the various types of endow
ments available to donors. The
June and July sessions focused on
internal controls and on the gift
policies necessary to develop
planned giving/endowment pro
grams. These last two sessions
included guest speakers from
Foundation For The Carolinas and
Charlotte Country Day School.
All of the meetings have been
well attended by both professional
and lay leadership of a variety of
Jewish institutions including, the
Jewish Federation of Greater
Charlotte, Levine Jewish
Community Center, Temple Beth
El, Temple Israel, Levine-Sklut
Judaic Library, Jewish Family
Services, Charlotte Jewish Day
School, Charlotte Jewish
Preschool and the Foundation for
Shalom Park. This high level of
participation indicates the interest
our Jewish agencies have in build
ing a planned giving/endowment
program to ensure the long term
financial security of their pro
gramming that is so important to
the members of our community.
In addition to securing the
financial future of our community
we are also working with our
agencies on how they can assist
their donors. This often involves
collaborating with a donor’s pro
fessional advisors to assure that
the gift is made in the most cost
effective manner for each donor.
This requires assisting each organ-
Foundation
for the
phadotte Jewish
.Community
ization to recognize how to assist
their donors in making a meaning
ful gift while helping the donor to
use utilize their assets in the most
productive manner.
The leadership of the
Foundation for the Charlotte
Jewish Community is confident
that these educational sessions
and our partnership with the
local Jewish institutions will be
instrumental as we continue to
help them develop their planned
giving/endowment programs
and strengthen our Jewish com
munity. 0
