As this is my first opportunity to write to all of you, I would like to focus on three main things. First, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself My name is Asaf Shenhav, and I will be the Shaliach (Israeli emissary) this 2009-10 year I am 22 years old, and I live in Herzelia, a big city very close to Tel Aviv. I completed my military service eight months ago, where I served as a guide in the Yad VaShem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem. Today, in addition to preparing for my journey to Charlotte, I am still working at Yad VaShem and in all kinds of different education al institutions. Other than the basic facts, I also have a few hobbies such as playing the guitar, singing, writing, reading, playing beach volleyball, photography, going dancing, and just hanging out with good friends. If I need to choose one main thing that I believe in, it is definitely the Jewish value of “Ve’Ahavta L’Reyecha Kamocha,” to love one’s neigh bor as you love yourself I believe in all people getting JEWISH^ FEDERATION € OF Gn6ATen CHAntOTTE Local, Global, Eternal SPECIALIZING IN: « Life Insurance ^ Health Insurance ^ Dental & Vision Insurance « Disability & Long Term Care Coverage ^ Annuities ^ HSA’s Keith Greens|ian • Stanley Greenspon 704-376-7434 www.greenspon.com Asaf Shenhav equal chances in life and I try to live by that value. Next, I would like to men tion my transition from living in Israel to leaving Israel - only for a short time, of course, but it is never easy leaving some thing you love so much. I will most definitely miss the Israeli culture, the way of life, the amazing landscape, the nightlife, and my friends. But more than anything, it is hard to imagine that this year’s holi days are not going to be spent with my family as they are every other year. But... This brings me to my last topic this time. It is an amazing feeling to know that, although I am not going to spend the com ing year with my regular fami ly, I am definitely going to enjoy spending it with my new (Continued on page 4) MAYORAL DEBATE John Lassiter (confirmed) and Anthony Foxx (confirmed) Tuesday, October 20,2009 7:00 PM Sam Lerner Center for Cultural Arts at Shalom Park This event is sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council.
