Federation’s Main Event is “Going Retro”

The Jewish Federation’s 2010
Annual Campaign will officially
kick-off on Sunday, Febraary 21
during The Main Event featuring
special guest speaker Rabbi
Daniel Brenner, Executive
Director of Birthright Israel
NEXT, who was recently named
by Newsweek as one of the 50
most influential rabbis in America.
Brenner’s speech entitled
“Going Retro? The Next
Generation’s Search for Jewish
Authenticity” will be both eye-
opening and inspirational. His
remarks will address the future of
Jewish life in America, what the
next generation will bring to the
table and how we as a Jewish
community can connect and
engage them.
According to Rabbi Brenner,
“Working with the next generation
of American Jews 1 see the quirky,
brilliant, and altogether unexpect
ed changes bubbling up for the
Jewish community that will be
either our greatest communal chal
lenge or a collective source of cre
ativity and strength.”

Temple Israel at 7:30 PM and a

Jewry, as well as his scholarship
on Identity, Place and Subversion
in Contemporary Mizrahi Cinema
in Israel is sure to enthrall you.
On Thursday, March 11, 7:45
PM, Rosa Perelmuter will enchant
you with a Latina perspective.
Bom in Havana, Cuba, the associ
ate professor of Spanish at UNC
CH will present, “Jews in Cuba,
Then and Now.” Her knowledge
History from Oxford University,
has taught at University of South
Carolina, and most recently has
transformed the Art Department at
Queens with exciting new pro
gramming. Her knowledge and
energy will inspire you this spring.
Programs will be held at
Temple Israel, free and open to the
public. Drinks will be served. ^
