Like so many havurah events, we’ll be drawing on our members’ skills and talents to make the eelebration a memorable and festive intergen- erational oeeasion: Pre-B’nai Mitzvah members - Brooke Feinglass, Hannah Kobre, and Ethan Alexander - will help to lead the opening prayers; Barbara Stoner, one of the fine Torah read ers in Charlotte, will use her exeeptional voiee to remind us that we were all at Mount Sinai at the time the Torah was first given; Dr. Charlie Brown, spiritual leader of Temple Emmanuel in Gastonia, and Frank Fleming will serve as Gabaim. The musie - guitar and violin - for our eoneluding prayers will be provided by Helen Lipman and Julia Westendorf. Serviees begin at 10 AM in the Aitken Classroom at Avondale Presbyterian Chureh (2821 Park Road). We’ll eonelude our Shabbat and Shavuot eelebration with a festive kosher (parve/dairy, peanut-free) pot-luek luneh and the opportunity to relax with long time friends and new aequaintane- es. Part of our ongoing Soeial Aetion aetivities, “Projeet Linus” partiei- pants meet to produee hand-made “seeurity-blankets” for ehildren who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. There’s a job for everyone, no experienee is neeessary, and extra hands are always weleome. The Dilworth Soup Kitehen - founded by Havurat Tikvah mem ber Allen B. Saxe - ean also use enthusiastie volunteers. Temple Solel, is set to have its inaugural Shabbat serviee on Friday, May 11, in York County, at the Reereation Complex at the ASC (formerly Leroy Springs Reereation Park), 971 Tom Hall Street, Fort Mill, SC at 7 PM. This serviee will mark the first Reform serviee held in York County. Serviees are seheduled to be held on the seeond Friday of every month with a soeial aetivity every fourth Friday. Temple members have also begun soeial outreaeh projeets in the eommunity. We partnered with Unity Presbyterian Chureh in Ft. Mill and to build a bed to enter in the Make a Bed and Make a Differenee Bed Raee, on April 21 in Roek Hill. Money raised at this event benefitted Family Promise, a not for profit homeless shelter for families. Members of Temple Solel will partieipate in Take Steps, Be Heard for Crohn’s and Colitis, a walk to be held on May 20 at Freedom Park in Charlotte. Temple Solel’s eongregation has family members affeeted by this disease and are partieipating in the event as well as other Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Ameriea fundraising events. The values of soeial aetion, eommunity involvement, and sup port of Israel are a strong foeus for the eongregation, making Jewish life at Temple Solel more than just about prayer, while young and old make lasting friendships.
