The Charlotte Jewish News - August 2014 - Page 2 t i JEWISH FEDERATION NEWS Meet Our New Shlicha: ^Adi Rodavsky I i My name is Adi Rodavsky and I have the honor of earrying the title of the new Communtiy Shlieha of the Jewish Federa tion of Greater Charlotte. Later this month, I will be starting my journey, whieh I hope will in- elude eaeh and every one of you. I am 26 years old and I live in Holon, a eity whieh lies to the immediate south of Tel Aviv. I have eompleted my high sehool studies at Mikve Israel Agrieul- tural Sehool, whieh was founded at 1870, the first agri- eultural sehool in Israel. In Mikve Israel, they edueated us in the value of Zionism, work ing with the land; beeause of that, I know how to milk a eow ^ and harvest exeellent tomatoes. ^ When I graduated high ^ sehool, I went to serve in the Is raeli Navy. I made friends, sailed ^ aboard various ships and overall, ^ had a onee in a lifetime experi- ^ enee. Immediately after the army I went to study in the He brew University in Jerusalem, a plaee whieh has beeome my ae- ademie home. I have a B.A in International Relations and Jour nalism, a seeond B.A in English Literature and a teaehing diploma, all aehieved in the same university. I am now writ ing my thesis work towards my M.A degree in New Media. In addition to studying, my other passion is teaehing. I eome from a family of edueators: teaehers, headmasters, and pro fessors. Onee I finished my teaehing diploma, I went to teaeh in the only plaee I eonsid- ered home, Mikve Israel. Com ing baek to teaeh in the sehool I learned at with the staff who taught me was an amazing expe- rienee. I teaeh English and Eng lish literature and I speeialize in the elasses other teaehers mis takenly label as “ehallenging.” I also teaeh B.A students as part of my work as a T.A. Published monthly except July An affliate of: JEWISH^ FEDERATIONS A R L O T T E Adi Rodavsky are very surprised when I tell them I prefer passionate, unruly teenagers to well behaved B.A students. I am an only ehild to two amazing individuals. My mother taught elementary sehool ehil- dren for over 25 years before re tiring and my father has worked all his life for the IDF. Most of our family lives in the UK. De spite being an only ehild, my parents have always raised me to be independent and pursue my passions and ambitions. Having a family who lives abroad was my first eonneetion to Jewish people who do not live in Israel. This eonneetion deep ened during my high sehool years when I worked with groups of Jewish teenagers who eame to learn about agrieultural sehools in Israel and during my military serviee when I worked with students from the Birthright projeet. That is all about me in a nut shell, I am looking forward to meeting all of you and getting to know at least this mueh about eaeh and every one of you. I have no doubt that my time in Charlotte will be an eye-opening and edueating experienee for me. I hope that during our work we will teaeh and learn from one another; that, in my opinion is the best way to form and strengthen eonneetions. Until then, I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer. ^ Tributes to the 2014 Annual Campaign The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte thanks and aeknowl- edges the following tributes made Mareh 8-June 30 In honor of Holly Levinson and the new Board of the Jewish Federation By Larry and Dale Polsky In honor of Randi Lan By Aviva Stein In honor of Staeey Sehanzlin By Aviva Stein In honor of Linda Seigel being awarded the Kipnis-Wilson/ Friedland Award By Allan Oxman In honor of the eollege graduation of Reid Worrel, son of Kim and Sue Worrel By Linda Seigel In memory of Evelyn S.
