The Charlotte Jewish News - November 2014 - Page 17 Moishe House Events for November Moishe House is a nonprofit or ganization dedieating to promot ing eommunity among Jewish young adults in their twenties and early thirties. Moishe House looks to fill the void that often exists after graduating eollege and prior to “settling down.” The organiza tion, with 69 houses in 17 eoun- tries, brings together groups of three to five Jewish adults who live together and plan loeal pro grams, both home-based and ex ternal, for other young Jewish adults. Moishe House Charlotte began in August 2013 and has hosted over 80 events ranging from serv- iee projeets to soeial events to Jewish learning and more. Diana Warth, Elana Congress, Audrey Singer, and now, the fabulous Danielle Soowal, live in the house. We are still looking for a fifth roommate. Please eontaet us if you are interested. The We Are Campaign ran through September and Oetober and was an opportunity for our partieipants to eontribute direetly to the Moishe House Foundation, enabling us to raise $1,000+. Before we start we will elose Shabbat with Havdallah, and then pay tribute to one of our favorite shows - New Girl. The Butterfly Projeet at the Levine Jewish Community Center is exeited to announee that work will begin mid-Oetober installing hand-painted eeramie butterflies on a new wing of the Children’s Holoeaust Memorial Seulpture in the Margaret and Lou Sehwartz Butterfly Garden. The artists, Paul Rousso and Patriek Robertson, will be out in the garden installing butterflies on this wing. Feel free to stop by and wateh these ere- ative individuals bring more of the seulpture to life. The Memorial Seulpture de signed by Paul Rousso and in stalled in 2011 eurrently has more than 2,800 butterflies affixed to it in mosaie style. Those butterflies were painted by ehildren, teens and adults from all over Charlotte and the surrounding eommunities on the main wings. It is a beautiful and meaningful symbol honoring the memory of the 1.5 million Jewish ehildren who perished in the Holoeaust. Sinee the ereation of the garden and installation of the seulpture in 2011, more than 9,000 stu dents have partieipated in the Butterfly Projeet work shops. The workshops use the story of the Holoeaust as a vehiele to teaeh what ean happen when preju- diee, stereotyping and dis- erimination are allowed to flourish. During the 2-Vi hour experienee, partiei pants hear from a Holo eaust survivor, partieipate in an edueational diseus- sion to build bridges of eommunieation, under standing and respeet for all people, paint a eeramie butterfly in memory of a speeifie ehild who per ished in the Holoeaust, and visit the Margaret and Sehwartz Butterfly Garden. For the 2014-15 sehool year, more than 4,300 students are already seheduled to attend a workshop. To experienee a workshop first hand, the Butterfly Projeet en- eourages you to attend our Community Workshop on Sunday, Butterflies being sorted by eolor in preparation for applieation to the seulpture.
